Classic Car Overview

All vehicle trades considered including classics and performance. We can assist with financing and shipping as needed.

This 1966 Corvette convertible is a desirable numbers-matching L79 4-speed in Rally Red. It is a complete car with two tops and a correct side exhaust that makes all the right noises. If you're looking for a show car or trailer queen this is not your car. But if you want a nice, honest midyear that offers a thrilling driving experience then please read on, because if you cant have fun with this one then you're just not trying.

This C2 shows a build date of February 19, 1966. An original code 974 Rally Red car, it wears an older repaint that has some chips and scratches but still looks good from a few feet away. The door gaps are even and the frame and birdcage appear in good condition. The bumpers may be original with some peeling on the front right piece. While this convertible may look best with the top down, it also comes with a red hard top and a black soft top to change things up. The wheels wear 1966 covers along with brand new 205/70R15 tires.

The 327 ci engine is the cars numbers-matching HT-code L79 small block which had a factory rating of 350 hp. The stamp pad shows the proper VIN derivative and an assembly date of February 7, 1966. It has the correct L79 Winters intake manifold (3890490) and Holley 4-barrel carburetor (LIST 3367). All ignition shielding is present too. The original 4-speed Muncie transmission also shows the correct VIN derivative and a date of February 12, 1966. Finally, the AO-code 3.70 rear end appears original with a date stamp of February 14, 1966 (note Corvette rear ends did not receive a VIN stamp).

Did I mention this car is fun to drive? It starts from the moment you turn the key and hear the side exhaust roar. The shifter has a tight pattern and is properly aligned for perfect operation. This C2 is also equipped with manual steering and 4-wheel disc brakes, all of which are in proper operating condition. The parking brake also works and a spare tire is present along with an aluminum radiator.

Looking inside reveals a standard black interior that is all stock including the instruments and radio. The seat covers are in nice condition with the exception of a small tear on the left outer bolster. The dash pads and door panels look good as does the teakwood steering wheel. All instruments work properly with the exception of the odometer and the clock. Other functional equipment includes the headlights, dash lights, courtesy lights, backup lights, turn signals, horn, radio, power antenna, wipers, and heater/defroster. It also has a new heater core along with the correct blinking bulbs for the parking brake and headlight door warning lights.

This is a solid Corvette that retains its original drivetrain and is priced lower than many other L79 midyears. It is a complete car that you can truly enjoy, top up or down. Whether you want to address some cosmetics or just drive it as-is, this one is worth a look.
