Classic Car Overview
BACKGROUND & OPERATIONALS: This car is owned by a Chevrolet expert with over four decades of experience. He is highly skilled at getting his classics to run and drive beautifully. The car was not originally built with the Turbo Corvair engine, but has been significantly upgraded by installing that high-performance option. The primary goal was to ensure that this Corvair would be a great driver, so upgrades such as an electric choke and fuel pump were installed. For comfort, the seats have new foam. A late model alternator with integral voltage regulator was added. A new harmonic balancer really adds to the engines smooth operation. All tires were replaced about 2 years ago. Manual steering, brakes, 4-speed , and Turbo all combine to make this car a delight for Corvair enthusiasts. We noted two items not working: 1) though the clock second hand moves, the hour hand cannot be set as it justs rides along with the minute hand, and 2) the windshield washer is not working. The top is manual and easy to raise and lower. There are well over 100 images to accurately convey the condition of the car. Our goal was to point the camera everywhere you would look if you were here in person. In addition to being a joy to drive, the car is sharp enough to get many admiring glances and should win awards at most local classic car shows. We would describe it as a fine driver that will also display well at local shows. Be sure to see the YouTube videos of this cool classic in action (search details below).
LOCATION: Fayetteville, GA (Approximately 25 miles south of Atlanta)
MODEL HISTORY: It would be hard to exaggerate the significance of the Corvair when it was introduced in 1959 for the 1960 model year. It was unconventional in ways that you never expected from the conservative management of the worlds largest automaker. A rear-engined air-cooled car might be expected from an imported brand, but not Chevrolet. Even more surprising, was that in its first six years, more than 200,000 Corvairs were sold annually! Being Motor Trends Car of the Year for 1960 got it off to a good start, but things got a bit rocky with Ralph Naders 1965 book: Unsafe at Any Speed. In it, Nader attacked known handling issues with the first generation Corvairs (1960-1963). By 1965, Chevrolet re-designed the rear suspension to successfully address the issues Nader identified, but sales began falling off and the car saw its last model year in 1969.
DRIVE REPORT & YouTube VIDEOS: The most impressive aspect of this Corvair Corsa convertible is how well it runs and drives with the turbo-charged engine. There are two videos on YouTube: the first is a curbside view of the car in action, and the second is a passengers view of a great ride through some countryside. SUMMARY: This car is a nice survivor that has been cared for as something special for over 50 years. The vast majority of 1966 automobiles no longer exist in ANY condition! The new owner should expect that most ALL classic cars of this vintage are works in progress. There will likely ALWAYS be something that needs attention, maintenance, and/or replacement/repair. There is no perfect exampleand how close to perfect it may be depends on the owners attitude, talent, time to invest, and monetary resources. The new owner is, in effect, the next caretaker because like a family pet this classic is entirely dependent upon its owner for survival!

IMPERFECTIONS: Most folks who see this car coming or going or even walking up to it will say that it is a nice preservation/restoration. But please keep in mind that this car was never stripped down to its last nut and bolt, with each part fussed over and re-assembled into something - though perfect to some peoples eyes - bears little resemblance to what Chevrolet actually shipped out the door. In truth, no classic car is truly perfectand this car is no exception. Therefore because we want you to know exactly what you are getting we actually look for flaws to point out. Please be sure to examine ALL images and read the captions/description thoroughly.
