1966 Chevrolet Chevelle

Chevrolets Chevelle SS rumbled into 1966 sporting big block power as standard issue. This marked a graduation of sorts into the big leagues for Chevys midsize muscle car, joining its GM stablemates with their 389- and 400-cube V8s. Specifically, the Chevelle SS now sported a standard 396 V8 making 325 horsepower.



Here we have a gorgeous 1966 Chevelle SS 396 that boasts a no-expense-spared ground-up restoration. The rock-solid and arrow-straight body boasts an incredible finish in the correct Marina Blue, which is nicely accented with a black vinyl top and a set of 15-inch Rally wheels wearing redline radial tires. The glass, chrome and stainless-steel trim are likewise impressive.



The underside is so clean it earns our Lasagna Car designation, meaning wed gladly eat our Sunday pasta off of the cars immaculate floor pans, frame rails, etc. The interior is also in amazing condition, looking as if it was taken straight from the showroom brochure.



Option highlights include factory air conditioning, sport steering wheel, tinted glass and GM floor mats. The optional buckets and console give the correct muscle car vibe, as does the full instrumentation including the knee knocker tach sitting aside the steering column. The trunk is likewise in fine condition.



Under the hood, the L35 396 looks great with its chrome air cleaner and massive rocker covers. Upgrades include a four core aluminum radiator and a Pertronix ignition. The big brute starts and runs fantastic, and the car has an automatic transmission, power steering and upgraded power front disc brakes that make wheeling around this thrilling powerhouse a breeze. Note that most of the original take-off parts (such as the original radiator and air cleaner) go with the car.



This stunning example checks plenty of boxes including those for the all-important condition, performance and options categories. Nice to look at and a blast to drive, this SS 396 must be seen and driven to be believed.
