Classic Car Overview
This was the last model when Austin Healey ceased production in 1967. It was purchased in 1992 by the previous owner who added it to his car collection. He restored the car and overhauled the engine in 1994, at which time the odometer registered 8,775 miles. When I purchased the car in 2014 the odometer registered 15,162, which indicates that the car was driven an average of only 340 miles per year for 24 years. This is understandable since it was part of a collection. It has a Production Record Trace Certificate (Number 92-8583) from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. The odometer currently registers 20,227 miles, which amounts to 5,000 miles over the past ten years.
Attributes
This beautiful car is in superb condition both mechanically and cosmetically. It is intended to be a driver. Since I acquired it extensive repairs, maintenance and modifications have been done. Some of the principal features are listed as follows: 1) new Vredestein tires in 2018 (185/70/15); 2) new Panasonic radio w/ CD player, Bluetooth connectivity, stereo speakers, and a vintage rear-mounted power antenna; 3) LED dash lights; 4) Lucas driving lights mounted on the badge bar; 5) real leather seats with green piping; 5) stainless steel 72-spoke wire wheels; 6) Lecarra steering wheel which matches the dash wood; 7) conventional vinyl tonneau cover plus cloth boot which covers the folded top; 8) seat belts with AH logos on the buckles; 9) indoor and outdoor car covers; 10) interior floor, side walls and doors insulated with Dynamat heat and soundproofing products, including the underside of the transmission cover; 11) Optima battery; 12) bullet-style side mirrors; 13) vintage California license plate; 14) trailer tie-down brackets front and rear; 16) valves hardened to run leaded gas.
The transmission was rebuilt less than 5,000 miles ago. Red Line synthetic oil is used, and a spin-on oil filter is installed. A Pertronix solid-state distributor and Bosch alternator are installed to improve performance and reliability. Unlike many other Healeys, this car tends to run cool enough in our warm climate. It has never overheated even in hot weather.
