Classic Car Overview
This is an early representation of one of the first production big block 427 roadster styled kit cobras made in the late 70s. This is a 1965 S/C kit that was made and sold by Unique Motorcars at their Phoenix, Arizona facility circa 1978/79 and the vehicles provenance has been traced through research with Unique and the chain of current ownership. Unique Motorcars and the Weaver family started making kit cobras in about 1977 out of their Phoenix facility before eventually moving to their current location in Gadsden, Alabama where they still make kit cobras to this day. This is a two-owner cobra, bought from Unique by the original owner and eventually sold to the second owner whose family currently owns it. This is a functional driving cobra with a current California title and registration under the SB100 regulation (i.e. vin has CA emissions exemption as a special construction vehicle. )
The drivetrain is a mild small block Ford 302 cubic inch engine, and the transmission is a Ford auto C4 (3-speed). The top end is fed by a Holley four-barrel carburetor and a 16-gallon in-trunk gas tank. The intake manifold is an aluminum Edelbrock Performer 289. The main frame is a solid rectangular 3-inch by 4-inch setup from front to rear. The rear end is a Ford 9 inch, and the front end is from an MGB. The car is setup for a 50/50 weight distribution via engine / trans placement and the four-link coil over rear suspension system. Wheels are 15-inch mini light mags with Ford 5-bolt pattern. The brakes sport discs up front and drums in the rear. The steering column and light functions are from an MGB. All gauges are Stewart Warner and are functional. Headlights and taillights have been converted to LEDs. The wiring and remaining lights are Lucas. Cooling is accomplished via an aluminum radiator and two sets of electric fans for a push and pull setup. The fiberglass body is in good condition and the paint is original single stage lacquer in 1976 Corvette Red. The paint is in decent condition but shows its age with some chips and scratches. The overall condition of the cobra is good based on professional appraisal and will make a nice functional, turn key and fun cobra for car shows, cruising, those cars and coffee outings, etc.
