Classic Car Overview
This is a rare, vintage 1965 Kaiser Jeep J-100 series 4-door Wagoneer FSJ station wagon with a 1964 Tornado SOHC 230 cubic inch (3.8 L) six-cylinder engine originally manufactured in Toledo, Ohio. This progenitor of the sport utility vehicle comes with a 3-speed standard transmission, factory steel wheels, president red exterior paint, fold down back seat, and a rare Gladiator/Rhino front end styled by legendary designer Brooks Stevens. The Jeep Wagoneer was the first true American SUV, called the father of all luxury 4x4s, produced under varying marques from 1963 to 1991.
This rugged beauty is in good running condition. The 3-speed transmission was converted from a “3 on the tree” to a “3 in the floor” at some point before I purchased it. The front bench seat has also been replaced with bucket seats. I bought it from a guy in Kansas last year whose grandfather had previously used it as a hunting vehicle. The grandson kept it garaged for the couple of years he owned it after it was passed down to him by his father, who also kept it garaged as I have since its purchase. The exterior paint is in good condition with a few chips and imperfections here and there and slight fading on the roof.
Since purchasing it, I have had extensive mechanical work done on it including replacing the rear differential, the driveshaft, and most recently, rebuilding the transmission synchronizer, bearings, and gears. I have done little to the exterior, and the interior remains untouched, leaving plenty of room for continued restoration. It has a clean title. I am selling it because I just don't have the necessary discretionary income to proceed with a full restoration that this vehicle deserves. It has not been in any accidents to my knowledge although there is some Bondo work that is evident in a couple of spots on the bottom of the vehicle.
I am more than happy to answer any questions that I can about the vehicle. Just ask!
