Built as one of just 5,830 examples of the Series 1 4.2-Litre Fixed Head Coup from the seven-year production run of the E-Types earliest form, the car offered here was finished by the Browns Lane factory in Pale Primrose Yellow paint over Black interior trim. The E-Type was scheduled for delivery to the United States, where it was imported to New York via Jaguar Cars. Marked as dispatched on 22 November 1965, the car was specified in left-hand drive with a manual gearbox, and its first owner was noted as Arlan E S Smith.
According to the period invoices that remarkably still accompany the car, by the early 1970s the Jaguar had changed hands with subsequent ownership in California and later Portland, Oregon. The E-Types whereabouts are not documented until it is seen still wearing its light yellow paintwork from photos taken in the mid-2000s, while it was registered in California when it was exported back to the United Kingdom in 2017. Here, the process of restoration was initiated by Jaguar Land Rover Classic, who repainted the body in its current shade of Sherwood Green. The body is finished to rear wide-arched, semi-lightweight specification. The Jaguar is now offered as an unfinished project complete with its body and chassis with a newly rebuilt engine accompanying the car in a crate. The E-Type would be an ideal contender to be finished in competition or Outlaw specification.
