1965 Ford Mustang For Sale This 1965 Ford Mustang hardtop is a clean, driver-grade example of the car that launched the pony car segment, finished in a sharp pearlescent white over red. The exterior was repainted in pearlescent white in 2012 and pairs with a red interior for one of the most recognizable color combinations of the early Mustang years. A new headliner has been installed inside, and the car wears a set of 1966 hubcaps. The drivetrain is the real story here. The car runs a rebuilt inline-six sourced from Jasper, currently showing around 1,000 miles since the rebuild, with fuel handled by a Holley carburetor. Behind the engine is a rebuilt C4 automatic transmission with roughly 1,500 miles since its own rebuild. Power runs back through 2.83 rear gearing, an economy-minded ratio that keeps engine speed low and makes for relaxed highway cruising. Together, the freshened engine and transmission make this a Mustang you can get in and drive rather than a project waiting on mechanical work. The suspension and braking are straightforward and period-appropriate. The car runs drum brakes at all four corners, with air shocks fitted at the rear for adjustable ride height and added load support. The 1965 model year was the first full year of Mustang production following the spring 1964 launch, and the hardtop was by far the most popular body style of the run. The six-cylinder cars like this one were the accessible entry point to the lineup, and they remain a favorite among owners who want a genuine first-generation Mustang that is easy to own, easy to drive, and simple to maintain.
