Classic Car Overview

-Wimbledon White with Black interior and carpeting, 289-cid, 306-hp HiPo V-8 engine, 4-Speed manual transmission, Restored, SAAC Division 2, Judged 2021 and awarded Gold standard, One of just 562 Shelby GT 350s produced in 1965. The 1965 Shelby GT 350 is one of Americas most iconic muscle cars. The 1965 model year cars were homologated as racing cars, as this year featured some items not present on the 1966 model year cars. The battery is located in the trunk, which was done on only the first 300 cars completed by Shelby. Other features include over-rider traction bars, relocated A-arms, a fiberglass bonnet scoop, fastback vents, side-exit dual exhaust with glass pack mufflers and special 130 mph rated Goodyear Blue Dot tires which rode on either silver-painted steel wheels. Over the regular Ford Mustang, interior differences included a full-size spare tire mounted in place of rear seats (SCCA regulations required 2-seat vehicles for racing), Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes and larger rear drum brakes with metallic-linings from the Ford Galaxie. A total production of only 562 GT 350s were produced for the 1965 model year. This GT350 was in long term ownership, stored in a barn in California by its first owner for most of its lifetime. It was found by Shelby enthusiast racer, Mr. Bret Matheson. During its original ownership the original engine seems to have been replaced with a correct date coded motor for reasons unknown, but still attached to its original numbers matching gearbox. Mr. Matheson then sold the GT350 to well-known and respected Shelby expert, Mr. Curt Vogt, Cobra Automotive. Mr. Vogt, together with another well-known and respected Shelby expert, Mr. Tony Conover of Performance Motors of Hanover decided to restore the GT350. It was entrusted to Mr. Conovers firm, Performance Motors of Hanover and restored to its current condition and superb standard. It was SAAC verified by Mr. Conover and judging sheets are available through SAAC. Once completed this GT350 was sold to an enthusiast collector, who then sold it to another enthusiast collector for a sum that could not be turned down. Recently, this GT350 was traded to Autosport Designs towards another car from our inventory, this time, not a Pony, but instead, a Prancing Horse. This GT 350 is a wonderful example of classic American muscle and ready to be thoroughly enjoyed by its next muscle car enthusiast. It would certainly make a great addition to any collection, is available for FIA sanctioned racing events or simply for concours show and touring pleasure.
