Given that the 21st century has seen a sort of return to the roots aspect for the Mustang, it was probably only a matter of time before the Boss 302 made a return. Over the last few years there's been steady and growing interest in the concept of a new-age Trans Am Special.
Jim Clarke led the charge with the creation of the 5.0 HO V8 for the Mustang in 1982 and was responsible for the continuous improvement of the 5.0 throughout the '80s. What Jim and his team accomplished is truly amazing.
Classic Car Overview
Its already a pivotal classic by virtue of its representation of one of the most popular models ever to roll off an assembly line - a model that gave rise to a whole new automotive classification, known as the Pony Car - but this 1965 Ford Mustang doesnt rest on its historical laurels. Its dressed in what would become one of its manufacturers most sought after exterior colors and is propelled by a period correct engine that anchors a nicely enhanced drivetrain for a great experience behind the wheel. The distinctive Highland Green shade this Pony wears is likely well-known to classic Mustang and movie fans alike. The shade fast became one of Fords most coveted exterior colors a few years after this 65 debuted and it adorned that universally admired fastback that tore through the streets of San Francisco in the movie, Bullitt . This is a fresh respray, and the paint remains in very good form and is accented by a collection of chrome thats in matching condition. A pair of fog lights added to the front grille, along with the dual exhaust valance in back, give the car a sharp, GT-influenced presence and, from the running horse sitting between the clear headlights up front, back to that signature insignia at the center of the gas cap, the array of badging and chrome trim on display present nicely. The interior has been refurbished while maintaining a convincingly authentic overall appearance, with just a couple of added touches to increase functionality and add a bit of distinction. Both the front buckets and rear bench seat are in great shape and the considerable real estate between them illustrates a somewhat unexpected benefit of the vintage Mustangs design - despite the models relatively compact wheelbase, this car offers a surprising amount of rear legroom. A beefy woodgrain steering wheel sits in place of the original, and just beyond it the dash is in good order, with an AutoMeter tach and a pair of SunPro gauges joining the factory displays in the instrument panel. The trunk area in back is clean and straight and is lined with signature Ford plaid fabric. With its inner wheelhouses exposed, you can see that its interior components line up well and are still joined by smooth, even factory seams. The 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood is a member of a class of vintage small blocks renowned for their durability - even now, more than a half century since they were first introduced, there are still quite a few of them on the road. The one on board here is running smoothly and has been enhanced with a number of upgrades, among them a Weiand intake manifold and 4-barrel Edelbrock carb. The engine resides in a well-maintained compartment, surrounded by fresh hoses and properly routed Accel ignition wires, and its been ornamented with a collection of chrome components, including the alternator, oil pan, fuel pump and water pump, to add to its visual appeal. The red distributor cap marking the added electronic ignition is just behind a Monte Carlo bar that enhances this classics structural ridigity. The upgraded 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and offers an overdrive gear to bring down revs at highway speeds and an aluminum radiator now sits up front to keep temperatures down. Disc brakes at all four corners provide fade resistant stopping ability as this tastefully modified classic cruises the boulevard on its set of 15 American Racing Torq Thrust 5- spoke wheels. This 1965 Ford Mustang offer the opportunity to get behind the wheel of one of Americas most iconic classics thats in reassuringly strong running condition. Call today!
