Classic Car Overview

  • Combines elegant Series I coachwork with sought-after Series II mechanical upgrades, including a five-speed manual gearbox
  • Numbers-matching chassis and engine
  • Extensive restoration in the early 2010s by a host of acclaimed restorers including Brian Hoyt and Ken Nemanic, both recognized for their Pebble Beach Best of Show-winning work
  • Exceptionally maintained under current ownership, with nearly $155,000 invested in servicing over the past 11 years

Following its debut in 1964, the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 evolved progressively rather than through a clearly defined Series I to Series II transition, giving rise to a small number of interim examples. Approximately 124 examples were produced, combining the quad-headlamp styling of early cars with later mechanical improvements, including a five-speed gearbox, power windows, and four-wheel dual-circuit Dunlop disc brakes, offering an appealing blend of classic Ferrari design and enhanced drivability.

Completed in August 1965, chassis 7455 GT is a particularly well-presented example of this desirable group. Originally finished in Grigio Argento (20265 A Italver) over Nero Franzi leather, it was destined for the United States market and is documented as having resided in California since at least the early 1970s, suggesting a long life of careful use in a favorable climate.

In the early 2010s, chassis 7455 GT reportedly underwent an extensive restoration by a consortium of highly respected craftsmen, including paintwork by Brian Hoyt of Perfect Reflections and interior restoration by Ken Nemanic, both recognized for their Pebble Beach Best of Show-winning work. Metalwork was entrusted to Mike Schiada, with final detailing by Don Nichols before it was cloaked in its present metallic blue-green finish over a cabin of sage leather for a distinctive, yet period-appropriate presentation.

Acquired by its current owner in 2015, chassis 7455 GT has since been maintained to an exceptionally high standard, supported by an 11-year service file totaling nearly $155,000. Most of the work has been performed by Fast Cars Ltd. of Redondo Beach, with recent servicing in 2024 and 2025 including a fluid service, as well as suspension and clutch adjustments.

A superbly maintained, numbers-matching engine example, chassis 7455 GT remains poised to carry four occupants in effortless style and grand touring comfort across vast distances, just as Ferrari intended, representing a particularly compelling expression of one of the marques most eminently usable V-12 grand tourers. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/auctions/mo26/.
