1965 Chevrolet Malibu

Representing the second year of Chevelle production, this Malibu SS model is a very unique example in that it has 6-cylinder rather than V8 power. Yes, in 1965 a V8 was optional in the SS and most were fitted as such, making a 6-cylinder version a very rare sight.



Here we have a real "137" 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS 6-cylinder car. Serious enthusiasts will know that "138" in the VIN denoted an 8-cylinder SS. Look closely and youll see a rock-solid and arrow-straight body that looks great in its subdued hue of Cameo Beige. The chrome and stainless-steel trim likewise have an impressive shine and the SS is nicely accented with 15-inch Chevy Rally wheels with BF Goodrich T/A tires.



The underside is in good condition while the inside of the trunk area does have minor rust. Note that both the left and right side trunk floor panels were replaced but the center panel should also be replaced.



The interior is in very nice condition overall, and features the optional bucket seats and console in Medium Saddle. The cracked dash pad is the only notable flaw, and that will soon be taken care of as we have ordered a new dash pad for the car.



Under the hood is that rare 230 cubic-inch inline six-cylinder engine. This bulletproof mill has had a number of performance upgrades whose highlights include an Offenhauser intake, dual carburetors and dual exhaust. It sounds healthy with a nice growl to the exhaust note. That super six is matched to a Powerglide automatic transmission and the car also has power steering and power brakes.



Out on the road the SS is a smooth runner with peppy performance and an easy-going demeanor. This is a rare, affordable and fun example of a second-year Chevelle Malibu SS.
