Classic Car Overview

Spectacular body-off restoration by noted restorer, who restored it for himself. Rare 283 with factory 4-speed manual transmission. Beautiful correct interior. Power steering, power disc brakes, aftermarket A/C. The Impala for the guy who insists on the best!

If you re a price guide shopper only concerned with the best deal, well, you can stop reading right here. This isn t your car. But if you re one of those guys who seeks quality above all else, then this car deserves a closer look. It was a body-off restoration by a gentleman who restores Porsches for a living and he did this car for himself, so the quality is tangible everywhere you look. Code K Artesian Turquoise is the car s original color and it just looks amazing on the all-new 1965 Impala sheetmetal. It s clean and modern and sleek while still looking suitably vintage for the mid-60s. Bodywork is outstanding with even gaps, proper panel alignment, and laser-straight sheetmetal that only comes from investing a lot of time and effort. There s really no place for sub-standard work to hide with that crease that runs from nose to tail and with those massive quarter panels, you d better get it right if you want it to look good. Thanks to modern urethane paint, the shine is miles deep and will look this good practically forever with a modicum of care, and there s just the right amount of metallic in the finish to make it glow in the sunlight. You ll note that all the stainless trim was polished like chrome, the chrome was refinished or replaced, and all the emblems are crisply rendered as original. Most of the glass is original and in great shape with no issues and all the weather seals are new. You can see that they were sweating the details when this car went together.

The lovely turquoise fabric and vinyl interior is really the highlight of the entire car. They somehow replicated that funky brocade upholstery, which is almost impossible to resist touching, and it s as comfortable inside as it looks. The big two-tone steering wheel frames the factory instruments, which cover the basics, and the sweeping dash features a restored dash pad and fresh woodgrain moldings. That s a factory 4-speed on the floor, complete with cue ball knob, and an aftermarket A/C system was so neatly integrated into the dash that it almost looks OEM. New seat belts, rubber floor mats, and correct turquoise and black speckled carpets make it welcoming, befitting the top-of-the-line Chevrolet. A digital AM/FM radio fits neatly in the original spot, almost blending in to look factory-correct, and there s a beautifully fitted headliner overhead. Again, the attention to detail really sets this car apart. Of course, there s a massive trunk out back which include a reproduction mat, matching full-sized spare tire assembly, and a jack.

The engine is a 283 cubic inch V8, which we believe is the car s original engine. It carries a GK suffix code, which is correct for a 1965 283 with a 4-barrel carburetor and A/C. It was fully rebuilt to stock specs aside from an Edelbrock carburetor on top of a matching intake manifold. It starts and runs superbly, idling with a barely perceptible burble from the tailpipes and making enough torque to make the 4-speed feel entertaining. It s correctly dressed in Chevy Orange with painted valve covers and ram s horn exhaust manifolds. There s a large aluminum radiator up front to help keep things cool with the A/C cranking, and the upgraded front disc brakes use a modern dual master cylinder for safety. And if you want to show the car, these are all easy details to change to make it look 100% stock, but given how well this Impala runs and drives, we wouldn t change a thing. The 4-speed has smooth clutch take-up and crisp throws and we believe there are 3.36 gears in the heavy-duty 12-bolt rear end. The suspension and brakes are fully rebuilt, lines and hoses are new, the original floors wear a light dusting of undercoating just for protection, and there s a stock-sounding dual exhaust system that s exactly right for the big Imp s luxury/performance mission. Ride is pillowy soft, aided by a set of proper-looking 205/75/15 whitewall radials on steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps. It s a no-nonsense look that we really like.

Documentation includes the original owner s manuals, Protect-O-Plate, and a MASSIVE folder full of receipts, notes, and other details on the restoration.

Once again, this is not the right car for the guy only looking at price. The quality is exceptional and this car stands apart in our showroom, even with some other pretty heavy-duty stuff sitting next to it. This is a special car for the right guy who understands getting a car right is easier said than done and who is willing to pay a premium for a car where someone went the extra mile. This is that car. If you re that guy, give us a call today!

Harwood Motors always recommends and welcomes personal or professional inspections of any vehicle in our inventory prior to purchase.
