Classic Car Overview
427/425hp V8 Period-Correct 396/425 Included 4-Speed Manual 25+ Year Ownership Power Windows Knock-Off Wheels Side Exhaust
This beautifully restored 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster combines classic midyear Corvette styling with serious big-block performance and a remarkable long-term ownership history.
The car was owned by its previous caretaker for more than 25 years before his recent passing and is now being offered by his sons. During his ownership, the Corvette was restored and maintained as a striking driver and showpiece, with numerous desirable performance and convenience features.
Currently finished in beautiful Butternut Yellow with a black interior, the car presents exceptionally well and has the stance, sound, and personality that make a midyear Corvette almost impossible to ignore.
Its original trim tag provides an interesting look into the cars history: it was actually built September 15, 1964, as a very early 1965 Roadster and originally left St. Louis finished in Milano Maroon over standard Black Vinyl upholstery.
Early-Production 1965 Roadster
VIN 194675S101028 identifies this Corvette as a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible assembled in St. Louis, Missouri.
With production sequence 101028, it is an exceptionally early example from the beginning of the 1965 model year.
The Fisher/Corvette body tag further identifies:
B15 - September 15, 1964 body build
65 467 - 1965 Corvette Roadster
S356 - St. Louis Convertible Body #356
STD - Black Vinyl interior
900MM - Milano Maroon exterior
Those codes make the cars history especially interesting and provide an excellent foundation for documenting its original configuration.
427/425hp Big Block
Today, the Corvette is powered by a muscular 427 cubic-inch V8 rated at approximately 425 horsepower, delivering the kind of sound and acceleration expected from a big-block midyear Corvette.
The engine has been upgraded with roller rockers and is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and Hurst shifter.
The combination gives the car an unmistakably old-school performance personality - plenty of torque, a manual gearbox, side exhaust, and the mechanical soundtrack that makes these cars so much fun to drive.
Power & Performance

Side-mounted exhaust
Power four-wheel disc brakes

Electric cooling fan
The Corvette runs, drives, and sounds fantastic.
Period-Correct 396/425hp Engine Included
Adding considerably to the package is an additional period-correct 396/425hp big-block engine, which is included with the sale.
The legendary L78 396/425 was the top Corvette engine introduced during the 1965 model year and was produced in only 2,157 Corvettes.
However, because this particular Corvette was built in September 1964 - well before the L78 entered production - the included 396 should be described as a period-correct included engine rather than the cars original engine.
If you can get me photos of the 396s engine-pad stamping, casting number, and casting date, I can decode that engine separately and tell you exactly what you have.
Restored in Butternut Yellow
The Corvette is currently finished in a striking Butternut Yellow, giving the car a bright, classic appearance that works beautifully with the black interior, chrome trim, knock-off-style wheels, and side exhaust.
The restoration presents extremely well, with the body lines and iconic C2 proportions remaining the star of the show.
For documentation purposes, the trim tag confirms that the cars original factory color was Milano Maroon, Code MM. Milano Maroon was one of eight regular 1965 Corvette exterior colors.
So rather than claiming the yellow as factory-correct, I would present it as the attractive color chosen during restoration.
Black Interior
Inside is a handsome black bucket-seat interior with a clean, purposeful midyear Corvette cockpit.
Features include:
Black bucket seats
Seat belts
Rare power windows
Wood-rim steering wheel
Telescoping steering column
Hurst 4-speed shifter
Custom stereo concealed in the glovebox
Speaker enclosure positioned behind the seats
While the current seating may be upholstered in leather, the original trim tags STD designation confirms the Corvette was originally equipped with Black Vinyl upholstery.
The concealed stereo installation is a particularly nice touch, allowing upgraded sound without cutting up or visually modernizing the classic dashboard.
Power Windows & Desirable Equipment
This Corvette is equipped with an impressive collection of desirable features and accessories.
Highlights include:
Power windows
Power disc brakes
Knock-off-style wheels
BFGoodrich tires
Side-mounted exhaust
Hardtop
Like-new convertible soft top
Wood-rim steering wheel
Telescoping steering column
Custom hidden stereo
Rear speaker enclosure
Be Cool aluminum radiator
Electric fan
Power windows were relatively uncommon on 1965 Corvettes, with Chevrolet producing 3,809 cars with the A31 power-window option that year.
The car also includes both its removable hardtop and a like-new folding soft top, giving the next owner all three personalities of a midyear Roadster - open, soft-top, or hardtop.
Long-Term Ownership
One of the nicest aspects of this Corvette is its story.
The previous owner enjoyed and cared for the car for more than 25 years. Following his passing, his sons are now offering the Corvette for sale.
Long-term ownership like this is increasingly meaningful with classic cars because it provides a level of continuity that is often missing from vehicles that change hands every few years.
The result is a Corvette that clearly meant something to its longtime owner and was kept to be driven, enjoyed, and appreciated.
Summary
This 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster combines the timeless styling of the C2 generation with serious big-block performance and an unusually interesting history.
Currently powered by a 427/425hp V8 with roller rockers, backed by a 4-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter, it delivers the visceral driving experience enthusiasts want from a midyear Corvette.
It also comes with an additional period-correct 396/425hp engine, adding substantial appeal to the package.
Other highlights include power windows, power disc brakes, knock-off-style wheels, side exhaust, BFGoodrich tires, a hardtop, like-new soft top, telescoping steering column, wood-rim wheel, upgraded cooling system, and discreet custom stereo.
The trim tag documents this as an exceptionally early September 15, 1964-built 1965 Corvette Roadster, originally finished in Milano Maroon over Black Vinyl, while the car today presents beautifully in Butternut Yellow.
