One of the most significant advancements in the 1965 model was the introduction of four-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment, a first for Corvette. The hood lost its fake vents, and new vertical side vents replaced the previous horizontal ones. It represents the evolution of the Corvette from a stylish sports car into a serious performance machine, laying the groundwork for the high-performance models that followed. A total of 8,186 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Coupes were made. There were a total 23,564 Corvettes produced that year.
