Classic Car Overview

55,813 actual miles. Three owners. Restored as needed, with extensive recent service. New Vintage Air A/C system. New top. Fresh Diamondback radials. Beautiful original interior. Runs and drives very well. Big, handsome Buick convertible ready for fun in the sun.

1965 was a great year for Buicks, and if you re looking for a full-sized ragtop, this lovely 1965 Buick Electra 225 convertible represents a whole lot of car for the money. With just three owners, including the original owner who kept it until 1988, it has been lovingly maintained and today shows what we believe is 55,813 original miles (the car comes with an actual miles title). It has never been fully disassembled and restored, but rather maintained and freshened as necessary. As a result, it presents quite well and has that solid feel of a good original car. It was repainted in its original code C Arctic White a few years ago, and the bodywork underneath appears to be in very good condition. And there sure is a lot of sheetmetal on the 225! Those massive quarter panels are straight and the crease that runs from nose to tail is crisply rendered. Of note, all the brightwork remains in outstanding original shape, including the fluted side trim that s insanely difficult (and expensive) to restore properly. There are no indications of issues around the fender skirts and the bumpers fit tightly to the bodywork, suggesting that it has never been hit. This is a very nicely done car.

The black interior appears to be almost entirely original save for the carpets, which are probably too nice to be 60 years old. But the rest sure looks like GM equipment, including the pleated seats, the door panels, and even the dash pad. The sweeping instrument panel is highlighted by a band of real wood, while the rest is rendered in bright stainless and chrome for the perfect mid-century modern vibe. Everything works except the clock, and you ll be happy to see a brand-new Vintage Air A/C system neatly integrated into the dash using the original vents. There s also a factory Sonomatic AM radio with rear speaker, plus Buick s famous Speed-Alert system. Optional seat belts are a nice addition and the floors are protected by Buick-logo rubber mats. Overhead there s a brand new black power convertible top with glass rear window, and it all stows under a matching black vinyl boot. The trunk is nicely refinished with new black carpets, correct cardboard bulkheads, and a full-sized spare with factory jack assembly.

Power comes from Buick s legendary 401 cubic inch Nailhead V8, which is a torque factory. The 445 on the air cleaner represents the torque rating, which makes this massive convertible feel 800 pounds lighter than it is. Beautifully detailed in correct Buick Turquoise engine enamel, the engine is a showpiece as much as anything else on the car. And there s a long list of new parts: radiator, hoses, power steering hoses, battery, alternator, voltage regulator, and the fresh A/C compressor. It starts easily and idles nicely, and as I mentioned, it has no problem pulling all this sheetmetal around with real authority. There s a reason Cadillac was nervous about Buick s top-of-the-line Electra. Another nice feature is the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that replaced the Dynaflow in 1964. Buick called it the Super Turbine 400 and it does indeed deliver turbine-smooth shifts and bulletproof reliability. Out back there s a huge rear end housing with 3.07 gears inside, so it s a fantastic low-stress cruiser even in today s world. Massive finned aluminum drum brakes feature a lot of new parts, including fresh hoses, so it stops effectively. You ll note one patch in the floor in the rear footwell, which isn t uncommon (water can get under the carpets and rusts them from the inside out), but it has been neatly patched with a chunk of floor from a donor car so it looks right. There are also recent shocks to maintain that plush Buick ride quality, and it sits on a fresh set of expensive 235/75/15 Diamondback radials with the correct triple stripe whitewall.

Buicks have been severely under-rated for decades and still represent a lot of car for a lot less money than a comparable Cadillac (or even a Chevy!). With outstanding road manners, big car comfort, and a long list of service work and upgrades, this beautiful Deuce-and-a-Quarter is ready to enjoy. Find out why Buicks were the better buy and give this one a closer look. Call today!
