Classic Car Overview

The Austin Healey 3000 Mk III was launched in October 1963 and remained in production until the end of 1967 when production of Austin Healeys ceased. Classified as the BJ8, the new model was the most powerful and luxurious of the big Healeys with a walnut veneer dash, wind-up windows, servo-assisted brakes, and easy folding soft top. Improvements to the 2.9L inline six-cylinder engine included a revised camshaft, new valve springs and twin SU 2HD8 carburetors together with a redesigned exhaust system that now produced 150hp . In May 1964, the Phase II version was introduced that gave better ground clearance at the rear by a modified chassis.

This 1965 model 3000 BJ8 was finished in May of 1964 as a N/A LHD Export example and sold new by a dealer in Charleston, SC. The car was born Healey Blue over Navy Blue interior. Sometime prior 2015 the car was refinished in its current color of Colorado Red over Black interior. Ownership can be traced back to 1977 when the car was in Alabama, then it moved to Oregon sometime around 2005. The current owner acquired the car in 2015 and much work has been performed over the years to maintain and improve the Healey. Much work has been done by British Central of Yakima, WA. The car has many impressive additions including; a smooth shifting Toyota 5-speed gearbox conversion, electronic ignition, stainless Performance exhaust system, aluminum radiator, and a quick ration steering box. Extensive mechanical work includes: complete brake system overhaul, electrical system overhaul, new wheel cylinders, fuel pump rebuild, new fuel tank, new wheel bearings, new pinion seal, clutch master cylinder, carburetors rebuilt, new clutch kit, instruments rebuilt, heater box overhaul. The motor was refreshed in 2016 with new main bearings, tappets, oil pump, rear main seal, etc by The Sports Car Shop of Eugene OR. New upholstery, carpets, and soft top was done in 2016. Steve Tate Auto Body of Yakima, WA a very well respected British car specialist, replaced the floor sections in 2016. This is one of the best driving Healeys we have ever experienced, the 5-speed truly transforms the drivability of this classic roadster. This car is fully "dialed in" and ready to be enjoyed by its next care taker, it can easily be driven on tours or displayed on the lawn of your favorite British car show!
