The Volkswagen Beetle is a car that needs no introduction as one of the most legendary vehicles in history. Although the Beetle dates back more than 80 years, arguably the most well known-especially in the United States- are those built in the 1960s. This 1964 Beetle is an excellent representation of that era of Volkswagen, and has been restored to show quality.
 
Finished in its original color of Anthracite Gray, this car has been under the care of just 3 owners from new and thanks to an older restoration, still presents in excellent condition. This car started as a very original, rust free shell and retains all of its original sheet metal, which was stripped down and repainted in this original finish. During the restoration, all of the chrome on the car was replated and still shows like new. The painted 15-inch steel wheels are wrapped in a set of new whitewall tires, and a Bekowa roof rack has been installed recently to complete the nostalgic appearance.
 
The interior is finished in orange, which adds some fantastic visual contrast to the dark gray on the outside. As with all Beetles, the build quality is second-to-none, with doors that shut like bank vaults and the simple yet effective single-gauge pod sitting just in front of the driver. The interior remains in exceptional condition and looks like it has barely been used since the completion of the restoration. Like the roof rack on the outside, an under dash tray has been installed in this car, as has a crystal dash flower holder- all of which really tie the look of this car together.
 
Powering this Beetle is the original 1.2-liter air cooled flat-4 which, at the time was rated for 30 horsepower, but could be easily increased if the owner chooses to do so. This is connected to a 4-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels. One of the most desirable upgrades for these classic VWs is the conversion from 6 Volt to 12 Volt- which this car benefits from. This means that your headlights are bright and a replacement battery is easy to find.
 
It doesn’t matter if you are a first-time classic car buyer or have dozens of cars in your garage, a Beetle is a must-have that will always put a smile on your face and the faces of everyone around you. This is a great driver example that has won shows in the past and still has the potential to take home a trophy at your favorite local car show. When it comes to fun behind the wheel, it doesn’t get much better than a classic Volkswagen Beetle.
