VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1964 Porsche 356C non-sunroof coupe, a three-owner car with known history to new. Finished in the original shade of Light Ivory over black interior, this is a numbers-matching example that has been with the same Georgia owner since 1995. Noted 356 specialist Jack Lewis serviced this car for its long-term second owner in Atlanta, then brokered the sale to its third and present owner 30 years ago. This 356 was treated to a glass-out repaint to a very nice standard in 2012; it has been garage kept since and still presents quite nicely - trim has very light patina but all body gaskets and seals remain pliable. Excellent shut lines and panel gaps; the doors close and fit better than most we have seen. A new headliner and dash pad were installed concurrent with the repaint when the glass was out, and both appear nearly new. The the door panels, carpets and seat upholstery predate the repaint and show a bit more age (especially the seats, which are still serviceable but a bit worn). Gauges have been restored by Palo Alto Speedometer (known for their exquisite work) and a restored Blaupunkt sounds surprisingly good thanks to speakers mounted in the kick panels. A copy of the factory record (aka The Kardex) confirms correct color and original, numbers-matching engine and transmission. This 356 was sold new to a buyer in South Carolina who took European delivery while stationed in Germany - it remained on the continent and was serviced by the dealer in Nuremberg for two years before returning stateside. In 1981 the second owner acquired this car, who maintained a handwritten mileage log from 1981 to 1994. The third and present owner has added 46,000 miles since 1995 (an average of 1,500 miles per year). The 1600 cc flat four was rebuilt in the late 1990s approximately 40k miles ago; it starts easily and runs great, and while we do not have detailed build specs, the seat of the pants power delivery feels more like a Super 90 than a Normal 75 (weve driven dozens of 356s and 912s around here). The chassis feels particularly composed (records indicate shocks, bushings and brakes were all done within the last 30k miles). Its a nice car to drive and enjoy as is, or with a light interior refresh could easily be taken to a show-quality level. Spare tire, jack (wrapped in a blue tarp for safekeeping), factory tools, original drivers manual, two keys, antenna key, Kardex, photos from 1976, mileage log to 1981, and records to 1995 are included with the sale.
