The Original Muscle Car

It's hard to imagine that the Pontiac GTO might never have made it into production. Had it not been for a small group of managers at Pontiac who were also car enthusiasts and visionaries, the GTO might not have been.

The Best Muscle Cars Ever Made

We've compiled a list of the greatest muscle cars of all time. Did your favorite make the list? Ask 20 muscle-car aficionados to identify the "best" muscle car of all time and you'll get 20 different answers.

Classic Car Overview

No less than an automotive icon, the 1964 Pontiac GTO started the exciting muscle car segment in fine style. Up until then, the idea of stuffing a nearly 400 cubic-inch V8 into a midsize car was unheard of. But when Pontiac dropped a beefed-up version of its large car 389 V8 into the handsome, midsize Tempest body, a legend was born. With 325 horsepower as standard and 348 hp available via Tri-Power (triple 2-barrel) carburetion, muscle was indeed in abundant supply. A Hurst-shifted 3-speed manual (4-speed manual and 2-speed automatic were optional) along with a firmed-up heavy-duty suspension, dual exhausts and bucket seats rounded out The Goats credentials.

This 1964 Pontiac started life as a Tempest LeMans convertible and was turned into GTO tribute. Originally, the GTO was actually an option package on the Tempest and meticulous attention to detail on this car makes it hard to discern from an otherwise identical real GTO. Furthermore, this car is loaded with factory correct options that include that 389 Tri-power V8 , automatic transmission, power steering , power brakes , power top , bucket seats , rally gauges , console , vacuum gauge , Sport steering wheel , side splitter exhausts , redline bias ply tires with spinner caps and the original and working AM radio. Overall the body on this GTO tribute is extremely clean. Everything works including the back up lights . Completely rebuilt front end.

With the ever increasing values of muscle cars, a very well done clone has become a viable option for those who want to enjoy a sharp, strong-driving muscle car without breaking the bank. At about half the cost of the genuine article, this faithful replica offers a lot of bang for the buck! Transport and financing are available.
