Classic Car Overview
For consignment, a 1964 Plymouth Belvedere 2 door hardtop with a title verified 73,700 actual miles. Originally one of street wedge cars, it now sports a period correct 426 Max Wedge Stage III motor. Someone get Steve Magnante on the line...this legendary car is right up his alley!
Exterior
This literal race car for the street does not present itself in subtle terms; two stage Ruby red paint lights this car up so you can see it coming, and watch as it blows by you. The 15-inch wheels are bright red too with simple dog dish hubcaps and staggered width tires that along with the rake, create a muscular stance. The back is a 60s treat for the senses with a ribbed latch panel flanked by boxy tail lights and the world Plymouth stretched as wide as possible on the decklid, all underscored by a wrap-around chrome bumper. In profile, the A-pillar and C-pillar mirror their angle and the curved rear window creates a triangular panel while the cabin reveal makes it look as if the roof could be lifted away, (it cant). Up front, the basic grille and quad headlights are upstaged by an impressive hood scoop that defines the very nature of the car. The body, paint and trim are near excellent. Imperfections include some edge chips, general small inclusions, scratch texture to the paint, cracked filler in lower back, and a few bubbles.
Interior
Simple black vinyl door panels with horizontal stitch patterns adorn each side and present in nice condition, leading to black split bench which includes grain vinyl inserts framed in smooth vinyl and other than a small tear, all seats front and back are in great shape. The steering wheel shares the column with a tachometer and fronts the simple design of the instrument cluster with round gauges in a gray faceplate, push button vent panel, and an AM radio. A triple gauge pod is suspended from the dash just ahead of the floor mounted Hurst shifter over clean black carpet and Belvedere branded mats. Our black headliner is high and tight and the trunk is a show worthy space with a spotless floor protected by a perfect plaid mat.
Drivetrain
The star of the show is under the hood and its a period correct 426ci Stage III Max Wedge V8 with dual Cater 625cfm 4-barrel carburetors. Its mated to an A833 four speed manual transmission sending power to the 8 inch rear with 3.55 gears and SureGrip. The orange paint, graphics on the valve covers, the offset carbs and air cleaners, and a spotless presentation make this a virtual work of art, not to mention a potent powerplant.
Undercarriage
Its pretty much perfect underneath and completely clean. The custom 3 TTI dual exhaust hit an H-pipe, then optional electric cutouts, then fork to find Dynomax mufflers which dump immediately at the glossy black rear axle. Drum brakes are at all four wheels and suspension includes torsion bars up front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
Will it run as good as it looks? Absolutely. Plus it sounds great as we make our way around the loop, testing the functionality of this marvelous Mopar with its obvious power underfoot. The icing on the cake is that everything works as it should and this one is raring to go. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Block stamping and casting numbers are visible and enable anyone to track the origins and dates of the block, heads, and intakes and with the help of the fender tag, can be proven to be a four speed 426 Street Wedge Belvedere now sporting a real Max Wedge. Mopar nuts, take note; this one wont last.
