Classic Car Overview
1964 Oldsmobile F85 Cutlass Convertible
For auction, a 1964 Oldsmobile F85 Cutlass convertible showing 32,000 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This presents as a barn find, runs on starting fluid, and goes into gear. Â
Exterior
Remnant of the Tahitian Yellow paint remain, but heavily marred by time and all kinds of patina that include stains, surface rust replacing places paint once covered, pitted surface rust particularly on the top points of the fenders, some spilled tar on the decklid, some rounded rust marks where a can sat too long, and surface rust and pitting on bumpers and other metal work. And yes, there's rust, particularly on the lower panels and around wheel openings. The black canvas top is mostly intact but the window has detached. On some positive notes, the tail light panel and lenses are intact and the coveted F85 badge still resides in the full grille with all four lamps in place.Â
Interior
Just as the paint is likely original, so too is the interior and the door panels, while missing the armrest and other components, are mostly intact. That F85 abstract design on the badge is mirrored in the stitching of the black vinyl bucket seats which show heavy wear as does the rear bench. The passenger seat is the best of the lot and seems to be fully intact. Up front, the steering wheel shows age and fronts a dashboard that is not completely unsalvageable, although there are components, including the radio, missing. There's a vintage Oldsmobile vacuum gauge laying on the center console and the shifter is in place without a handle. The floor is rusted and flaking but we're not seeing daylight, yet, and the visors have seen better days. In the trunk, there's lot of parts, including some interior trim pieces. Â
Drivetrain
The engine shows patina but is all there and it's a period correct 330ci V8, rated at a healthy 290 horsepower and fed fuel through a 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it is Olds' touted JetAway 2-speed automatic transmission which routes power to the 10 bolt rear axle. The car is supplied with power steering and power brakes. Â
Undercarriage
No surprise that we have lots of advanced surface rust underneath and areas of rust through, especially on the inner rockers and frame. The single exhaust carries a stock style muffler and suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a 4 link in back. Â
Drive-Ability
The car starts on starting fluid and shifts into gear.
This sporty convertible was once a sought after part of the American roadway landscape and we can only imagine the fun this one provided. There are some good parts here and a running engine so who knows what might become of it! That's up to you, the new owner.
