Classic Car Overview
For consignment, a 1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass F85 442 hardtop showing 66,274 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a title exemption. This car received a frame off restoration and the engine, transmission and rear end have been rebuilt. Its high performance status was used by law enforcement in the mid 60s and this is one of just 158 F85 442s produced in 1964.
Exterior
The gentlemens muscle car begins with 60s era sharp angles and spectacular two stage Ebony Black paint intersected by polished stainless trim on the side, rocker panel, centerline of hood, and around each window. A coveted splash of color is reserved for the three section 442 emblems on the fenders and rear decklid. A chrome bumper underscores the symmetrical rear fascia with segmented tail lights and an equally divided center trim piece with enough segments to spell out OLDSMOBILE. Up front, the face has GM familiarity to it, and an F85 badge is centered on the horizontal rakes of the grille. 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels complement the exterior with black inserts and are wrapped in staggered tires with a mid 2023 date code. The exterior is as nice as they come with the only imperfection being some minor scratches on the molding trim.
Interior
You may be expecting black, but its Saddle brown providing the contrast for the inside, first on the beautiful, stitched door panels with an F85 emblem and carpeted lower and both present cleanly. Saddle leather bucket seats occupy the front and along with the rear bench, look to be in just about flawless condition. Up front, the two spoke steering wheel fronts a decidedly horizontal dashboard with aluminum over black and a simple layout of the speedometer, clock and gauges over the vent levers and AM/FM radio where your eyes will be drawn to the 442 emblem just above. A triple gauge panel has been added, and a vintage tachometer hovers just above the center console housing the T-handle shifter, all over brown loop carpet under a smooth, stitched cream headliner, all in great condition. The clean trunk has a vinyl mat, cut to fit, covering a spotless painted floor.
Drivetrain
The show stopping quality continues under the hood where youll find the gold blocked 330ci V8, rebuilt in 2024 when it was bored .030 over and recipient of a Racer Brown camshaft. Originally rated at 310 horsepower, its mated to a 4-barrel carburetor and a 4-speed Muncie M20 manual transmission. Out back, youll find a 12 bolt with 4.11 gears and Positraction. Power steering and power brakes are evident in the clean bay where the bulls eye decal on the air cleaner exhibits the classic 442 colors.
Undercarriage
This is one of those undersides that would have us towing this car to shows! The 2 in 442 represents the dual exhaust, and its here, spotless, and carrying black painted FlowMaster mufflers after the X-pipe terminating with a discreet exit through pipes behind the fenders. Power disc brakes are up front with power drums in back and suspension consists of coil springs with a 4 link included in back, and its all completely clean.
Drive-Ability
We hop into this minty mint 442 with high hopes and sure enough, the Olds satisfies that itch. It runs very well, sounds great, and does everything its supposed to. In fact, all functions on board operate as they should and this car is 100% ready for transport to its next lucky owner! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
A 1964 print ad exclaimed, Police needed it. Olds built it. Pursuit proved it! Put this one on your WANTED list! . While you cant really call this slightly raked black 2 door a sleeper, and it no longer gives off state trooper vibes, you can be assured that this is a very nicely restored and rare high performance muscle car, and a spotless one at that!
