Classic Car Overview

Here in the corridors of the Classic Auto Mall we have all kinds of cars with all kinds of purposes. Some classics to be shown, others to be driven, and others to do both. Here we have a classic that exemplifies early muscle cars. It is to be driven, and should be shown. And it is in very original condition with a 1980s respray and a title verified 34,974 original miles. Exterior From its chromed bezel dual headlight flanking an egg crate grille, and lower wrap around bumper, to the white painted spear running along the crease at its belt line, and the dual sets of three taillights within more aluminum trim, and a white surround, and lower bumper, this car sports plenty of nice brite-work, and chrome to feast your eyes on. Wrap around chrome window surrounds, and cursive Impala SS badging with the galloping impala in a circle, and the crossed flags badge on both front quarter panels shines brightly against its white respray in the 80s paint that has held up well. This paint is beautifully applied but is showing its age as can be expected. All lines and gaps on this car are laser straight, and it could have been just driven off the showroom floor back in 1964 this restoration is that good! Vintage 14 1965 Mickey Thompson Radar wheels with polished lips and faux knockoff hubs are wrapped with blackwall radials from 2009. Interior As we swing open the 1 of 2 doors on this hardtop, we are met with blue vinyl that is tucked and rolled on the uppers, and vinyl center inserts, then carpeting below. A Y pattern is created with the chrome delineating trimmings that thins in the center for the armrest. Just very well preserved showing here. As we move inside 2 wide buckets also in blue vinyl framed in chrome, flank a center console that is very thin and shoehorned between the buckets, and reach no further than the seats backs. The seats show some smudging, and wear on their edges from use however this interior is original. In the back is a pattern matching bench with a centrally mounted speaker. The top of the console is covered with a houndstooth machined aluminum pattern and houses the ball style shifter. As the console narrows when it gets under the dash, it ducks down and diminishes into the carpet. An original dash with original gauges in a multi level design house the GM instruments. Another machined houndstooth pattern aluminum strip runs across the bottom of the dash, and fronting all this an original steering wheel in very good condition. The steering column has a factory centrally mounted tachometer. Above is a square patterned broadcloth headliner in light blue. Note the coverings on the B pillars show some slight sagging. All though remains original to this car. Drivetrain Under the hood in a clean engine bay an original and correct 409ci V8 with a red/orange GM color painted block that sports shiny chromed valve coverings is shoehorned inside. This codes out at T0420QC which reads as an April 20th build of a 340hp 409ci 4bbl V8 which is correct for the cars 1st week of June build. On top is a correct Rochester 4GC 4 barrel carburetor. On back is a Muncie 4 speed manual transmission which is not original to this car and is circa 1968-70 version. The rear axle clocks in at 3.36 ratio. Undercarriage Manual drum brakes are noted now in front and rear. The undercarriage environment is mostly covered in surface rust, although no invasive rust is noted. All sound independent coil springs are upfront and a 3 link with coil springs is now on back. A newer Flowmaster shiny rust free exhaust snakes its way past the framing and other mechanicals. Consigner states a full maintenance including fluid replacements, new shocks and brake linings was recently performed. Drive-Ability A pleasure to get in and turn the key and now hear the roar of the 409 cubes under the hood. This is a classy classic that drives like a dream, with no observed faults and only a non working clock. Plenty of WOW factor with this full original, which the consigner went to great lengths to preserve and keep. I have not seen a nicer original example come through these doors and definitely a special car. No rodding, no HP soup ups, just a clean original looking car from the factory way back in 64, and now in our Hallowed Halls. 41447C175287 4-1964 14-Impala SS V8 47-2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupe C-Doraville, GA Assy Plant 175287-Sequential Unit Number TRIM TAG 06A-1st Week June Build STYLE 11447-1964 Impala SS 2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupe BODY BA4471-Doraville Body # TRIM 831-Blue Vinyl Buckets PAINT 916-Daytona Blue
