Classic Car Overview

1964 Chevrolet Corvair Spyder Convertible For consignment, a 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Spyder with 49,943 miles shown which are non actual, the recipient of some newer parts that include brake components such as the master cylinder, hoses, and wheel cylinders as well as new axles. Mechanically, 1964 Corvairs had redesigned engine hardware and gaskets designed to improve oil sealing on the rocker arm covers. Exterior A fine shade of ocean blue, Azure Aqua, swims over the car in original single stage application, a color that highlights the subtle body lines of the car including the rounded fenders coming off of the headlights, a detail you might miss in other colors. A laser straight shoulder line evolves into a slight overhang front and rear where quad lights are the layout for both the headlights and the round tail lights. Without a front grille, the headlight bezels take on a unique shape and configuration, immediately recognizable and flanking the smooth paneled front. Out back, a pair of faux vents come just before the louvered decklid which of course, is functional. Our black canvas top with plastic window is in good shape and easily folds to change the personality of the car in an instant, while 13-inch aluminum slot wheels provide a sportier option to the hubcap version. Some of the metal here could benefit from restoration while other imperfections include paint chips, numerous areas of bubbling, and surface rust where paint chipped off. Interior In general, the interior shows some age and that starts on the black vinyl door cards which are complete and relatively clean, but loose, wrinkled and detached in some places. The black vinyl bucket seats are tired, have some tears, splitting seams and compression, but are entirely usable and the rear bench and surrounding materials could also use a refresh, or enjoy as is! The large slim steering wheel fronts a nicely designed and simple instrument cluster with horizontal speedometer and gas gauge over aluminum trim and silver knobs, all with a bit of patina. In the middle we have an AM/FM/Cassette radio under a cracked dash pad which arches over the aluminum glovebox door. A white knobbed shifter rises from the floor where black loop carpet resides, a bit loose, but in good condition. The frunk is barren and clean and the paint on the underside of the lid hints at what it may have looked like new. Drivetrain Under the rear hatch is a clean 164ci flat 6 cylinder, rated at 110 horsepower and this one wears a pair of new 1-barrel carburetors. A 4-speed manual transmission is on board which keeps power in the back with 3.55 gears and drum brakes are found front and rear. Undercarriage Driver quality conditions prevail underneath where belly pans take up most of the real estate. Surface rust is prevalent on heavy steel components and some suspect rust on the belly pans is evident around some patchwork repairs. Theres also some rust in the pinch welds under the doors. Some oil is evident on the underside but major leaks are not apparent to us on observation. Exhaust from each side of the flat 6 merge into one pipe, a stock style muffler, then a tailpipe. Drive-Ability We prime the new carbs and turn the key and the 6 cylinder fires up with that unique if you know, you know Corvair exhaust tone. We throw the shifter into first and scoot this aqua drop top onto the test loop where it runs just fine, tracks straight, and handles well with rear weight bias, pushing this lightweight car with plenty of gusto. Limited functions on board mean less can go wrong and, on this day, everything worked as it should! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. The airy interior, the low sleek profile, the happy front fascia and of course, that flat 6. Theyve been called a lot of things over the years, and terrific is the one we like best. This is a good example with lots of options, drivable as is but room for creative interpretation or restoration. Elvis bought Pricilla a Corvair back in the early 60s and if its good enough for the King, itll do just fine in your garage! 40667W190587 4-1964 06-Corvair Spyder 67-Convertible W-Willow Run, MI Assy Plant 190587-Sequential Unit Number Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (thats more than 8 acres!).
