Classic Car Overview

This 1964 Buick Riviera is a beautiful, luxurious hardtop that is absolutely loaded with options! Initially making their debut during the 1963 model year, the Buick Riviera signified Buicks entrance into upper medium price class for personal luxury automobiles, a genre completely dominated by the Thunderbird up until this point. Built on their own unique 117 inch wheelbase chassis and utilizing a 2-door hardtop body, the Riviera stylistically was unlike any car coming out of Buick in the day or even out of General Motors at the time. The radically distinct design was quite popular with total production sitting at 40,000 units in 1963. The 1964 edition of the Riviera was largely unchanged from the debut models, likely contributing to a slight drop in production from 63 to 64. From nearly every angle the Riviera looked both fast and luxurious. On the front fenders, the leading edge was highlighted by a miniature vertical grille on each side, reminiscent of the grilles found on a 1936 Cadillac. Between the mini grilles, was an egg crate-style grille with a pair of headlights on each side. Down the sides, the body lines were elegantly modern with special trim, including Riviera script emblems, bright rocker panel and wheel well moldings, and a faux air intake in front of the rear wheel openings. In the rear, the personal luxury and modern design motifs were continued with very modern-looking body lines, a Riviera script emblem, and unique taillight assemblies. The interiors exuded luxury as well. Front bucket seats were separated by a center console and shifter that made the cars look and feel sporty yet upscale. The dash was covered in brightwork that was both extravagant and futuristic. The Riviera was also absolutely loaded with options as standard equipment including the center console and shifter, power steering, power brakes, automatic transmissions, and more. The biggest improvement in the 1964 Riviera was actually found under the hood with the powerful 340 horsepower 425 cubic inch Wildcat V8 being standard equipment, cementing the 64 Riviera as being a luxury sports car of sorts. This particular 64 Buick Riviera comes to us from a collector who owned and cared for the car for nearly 35 years. Powering this 64 Riviera is a numbers matching 425 cubic inch V8 engine fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to produce 340 horsepower. The numbers matching 425 V8 is backed by an automatic transmission that makes this luxurious Buick an easy for for anybody to take for a cruise. Exhaust exits this Rivieras V8 powerplant via a dual exhaust setup that generates a wonderfully throaty sound out of the tailpipes. This 64 Buick Riviera comes absolutely loaded with options! With power steering, squeezing in and out of a tight parking space at the local car show or ice cream parlor is almost effortless and the overall driving experience is much improved. Power brakes in all four corners is another welcome option on any classic 60s cruiser since it makes bringing this luxurious numbers matching Buick to a complete stop much easier as well. Riding on a set of whitewall radial tires mounted on steel wheels and accented with full wire wheel covers, this 64 Riv has a gorgeous upscale look and a terrific ride. The exterior on this Buick Riviera has been correctly refinished in Granada Red paint, just how it came when it rolled off the factory floor in Flint, Michigan back in 1964. The interior of this 1964 Buick Riviera is extremely luxurious too! The front bucket seats and rear bench seat sport correct Red tufted upholstery. The color-matched red upholstered door panels, center console with integrated automatic shifter, new red carpeting, padded dash, and color-matched steering wheel are all in wonderful shape as well while retaining a gorgeous stock look. The interior comes outfitted with several wonderful options as well! You will be able to stay cool even on the hottest summer days as this 64 Riviera comes equipped with factory air conditioning. Squeezing in and out of tight spaces and lane changes are a total breeze since this Buick comes with a drivers side adjustable outside mirror. Other interior options include a locking glovebox, courtesy light, defroster controls, console-mounted cigar lighter, and even a Sonomatic AM radio. Instrumentation includes a 140 MPH speedometer and fuel gauge, along with indicator lights for oil pressure and engine temperature as well as a clock. Whether youre buying your very first classic car or youre adding to your existing collection of Buicks or classic luxury cars, this 1964 Buick Riviera would make an excellent choice.
