While the Cabriolet was already notable for being the most expensive variant of the 356 C on sale, a mere 30 examples were additionally specified with the four-cam Carrera 2 engine. The brainchild of Dr Ernst Fuhrmann, the flat-four motor propelled the 550 Spyder sportscar to class wins in the 1953 editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Carrera Panamericana.

Making its way into selected Porsche road car models, the engine returned 130 horsepower from its 2.0-litre capacity. Of the 356s to gain the Carrera 2 motor from the factory, as well as being equipped with disc brakes all round, offered here is chassis number 159571. Listed as complete on 29 October 1963, the Porsche was finished with Light Ivory paint over a Green leather interior prior to its delivery in the United States via Max Hoffmans New York distributor.

Although the complete history of chassis 159571 is not known, it was subsequently registered in the United Kingdom in the 2010s and later moved to Italy. Through a dealership in Milan, the 356 C was then acquired by the consigning owner in March 2019.

Presented in its factory-correct colour combination of lesser-spotted Light Ivory over Green hide and significantly retaining its matching-numbers Carrera 2 flat-four engine, this incredibly rare example of the 356 C Cabriolet is among the most desirable of its kind. Chassis 159571 is further offered with a spare wheel, tool roll, and a copy of its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
