In just a few short years, Walter P. Chrysler took his company from an unknown automotive manufacturer to fourth in the industry. Walter Chrysler was a perfectionist with a deep mechanical background. This aspect, probably more than anything, helped to make Chrysler Corporation grow quickly.
Classic Car Overview
By 1961, Ford was selling half a million Falcons, and Chevrolet was turning out 300,000 rear-engine, air-cooled, VW-fighting Corvairs. Rambler, which had essentially invented the American compact car, came in third place with 220,000 Classics. Oldsmobile wanted in on the act, and its entry was the F-85, the base of the Cutlass line. It was a smartly styled, high-compression V-8. The F-85 represents a truly unique choice in this segment of 1960s automobiles. They were never built in the huge numbers, so theyre a standout at any car show or cruise night. And unlike the bulk of the cars, it competed against, F-85s were all V-8 powered, featuring an all-aluminum block from Buick, but with Oldsmobiles own heads with wedge-shaped combustion chambers.
This sleek white exterior F-85, with a white convertible top features a striking red vinyl interior. She looks like a very early version of a muscle car with shiny mag wheels on each corner. In the engine bay sits a very similar 215-cubic inch, high-compression V-8. The three-speed automatic transmission has a very interesting floor mounted automatic shifter and jet fighter style console. Comfortable bucket seats help to complete the awesome driving experience! As GMs compact offering, it is smaller and lighter than many others out there. But it also has great big car styling. This Cutlass has a commanding presence with wraparound chrome bumpers, full-length trim, and the broad grille can fully spell O-L-D-S-M-O-B-I-L-E in wide block letters. This has a nice original-style feeling on everything from the AM radio to the insignia door panels. And originality is quite a nice thing to have! It means deeply bolstered bucket seats, a grip steering wheel, and a speedometer that goes and goes.
