Classic Car Overview

1963 Ford F100 Long Bed Pickup For consignment, a 1963 ford F100 long bed pickup truck showing 1,000 miles but the true miles are unknown. As described by our consignor, this was a beautiful old farm truck turned into a show worthy truck built for their dad about 15 years ago. This is a wonderfully clean truck with some hot blue flames that are nicely done. Exterior Were greeted with a gleaming face, a robust metal grille with clear headlights wearing chrome visors over a straight bumper and the metalwork looks fantastic. This is our first look at the airbrushed blue flames, which spill out of the upper intake vents and lick the top of the hood while more are visible to the side of the lights on the fender which flow back onto the Steel Blue Metallic paint with which this truck is covered. And that coverage is over smooth long panels that the 60s brought after several decades of rounded fenders, hoods, even rooflines. The realistic flames also flare from the wheel openings giving the truck the appearance of motion even when parked, and the 15-inch chrome steel wheels add just enough show without upstaging the main players, the paint, profile, and flames. The bed is black and rough coated meaning it can be used, which is a nice bonus for a show truck! As noted, the brightwork and paint are excellent and a single, horizontal scuff in the paint is the only imperfection we detect. Interior The inside surface of the doors wear the glossy blue paint, augmented by a vinyl panel that houses the functional hardware and armrest making for a clean presentation. A black cloth bench is framed in vinyl and looks clean and comfortable and easily accessed with the cove-like door sill that acts as a step up to the floor level. A simple black steering wheel fronts a black painted panel that houses that single round gauge that integrates the speedometer centered between square gauges and idiot lights over a polished mid-panel that is home to old school knobs, all wrapped in more blue paint. At center, we have a JVC AM/FM/CD radio and an aftermarket temp gauge mounted under the dash. A streamlined, straight shifter comes up from the floor, wrapped in an accordion rubber boot and perfectly surrounded by black loop carpet with built in heel pad and up above, a textured black headliner and smooth visors complete this clean interior. Drivetrain A clean engine bay houses a clean powerplant, in this case, a 300ci inline six cylinder with a 1-barrel carburetor and a C6 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the Ford 9 rear axle. Power drum brakes are found at all four corners and they are fitted with new wheel cylinders. The inner fenders take up some bay real estate and are painted in a clean, black coat. The radiator is new. Undercarriage Like the overall design of the truck, the underside is simple, efficient, and clean, featuring Fords touted I-beam construction. We note some typical surface rust and a build up of grease on a crossmember, as well as some residual oil on the pans. The single exhaust wears a FlowMaster muffler before exiting out the side and leaf springs make up the suspension front and rear and wear new bushings. The gas tank is also new. Drive-Ability Our straight six starts right up, sipping gas from the 1-barrel and shifting into Drive which propels the truck onto our test loop. If youre like us, you may have fond memories of bench seats and all the benefits they provide, and it will all come flooding back when you sit on this comfortable perch. Meanwhile, the truck performs well and while it wont win any races, it has adequate power and acceleration, tracks straight, and floats over road imperfections and with new bushings, lacks the creaking normally associated with old trucks. We note the brake lights dont work, the horn isnt blowing, the odometer is not turning, and the needle is broken off of the speedometer, so stick a wet finger out the window to calculate your speed! All other functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. I hope my kids are paying attention. Were not getting any younger and Im waiting for the gift of a truck like this! What a great family piece and one that will likely make someone in your family very happy to receive, even if thats just you! It may be black and blue, but its a lover of a truck, not a fighter. Step into the ring for this one before these flames are extinguished from Classic Auto Mall!
