Classic Car Overview
Its a 1963 fuelie convertible (two top car) 4 speed, power brakes, manual steering car. This car is the literal barn find. Our goal with this car was to get it back on the road while balancing originality with drivability
Due to it sitting in a dirt floor farmhouse basement for decades took it toll with the metal components. Everything underneath was in the condition you would expect for this car sitting where it had for that many years. The frame has rust but isnt structurally compromised. (The video showed the entire frame as well)
Mechanical.
The motor has new gaskets with the exception of the rear main. The short block has never been apart and with the exception of new gaskets is original. However the rear main is original and has a small drip on shutdown. Has a new alternator, balancer, starter.
Heads were pulled and cylinders oiled along with the oil pan cleaned out before initial start. Oil was flushed multiple times and runs Schaeffer racing oil.
The fuel injection unit and distributor was rebuilt by futo and son out of Phoenix. Comes with a documentation from the rebuild as well as before and after pictures along with video from the builder testing the unit and notes.
It has only been ran on 100 octane as ethanol free fuel is not an option in the city. The fuel pump is new, the fuel tank was cleaned and a new sender was put in it but the line from the tank to the pump leaked so it currently has 6an line from the tank to the pump. From the pump forward is reproduction lines and filter. Also has a reusable k&n air filter from a custom run order.
The transmission was rebuilt locally by baca transmission and has a new reproduction shifter sitting on top of it. while the clutch is a McLeod street pro kit.
The exhaust is a 2.5 in kit from ecklers from the manifolds back.
Cooling system has all been replaced, water pump, fan clutch, radiator (cold case) reproduction hoses, thermostat, heater core. The cables for the heating system are original and do like to stick.
The brake system has been entirely replaced. Pre bent lines, hoses, cylinders, rebuilt drums. Single pot master. We did add a later brake booster to get better stopping for city driving. Being able to stop in traffic was a priority, but can be easily removed and the top support straps are not drilled into the firewall.
The front suspension has new loaded control arms from van steel along with small block coils from ecklers. New Koni shocks front and rear.
exterior.
Its a two top car, the top was stored on the car for all the years it sat so it fits surprisingly well. Everything exterior is original. The bumpers have pitting in them, the headlights work but the bucket motors do not, the head light buckets have pitting as well, The paint has ware spots and cracking or chipped however it shines up incredibly well considering its condition
The car also has the original spare tire and carrier but is not on the car, the exhaust need to be adjusted for it to fit.
The interior has new seatbelts, floor mats, shifter boot, and oil capillary tube for the gauge. The original owner changed the clock out for a vacuum gauge in the late 60s, unfortunately I was unable to locate the original clock.
We have binders of invoices and documentation that go with the car along with pictures of this cars journey, videos of the first restart, Service manuals, original parts and more Im sure Im forgetting.
The story of this car is too cool not to share with you as well,
How we got the car:
This car we pulled out from a farmhouse basement it belonged to a friend of the family, the original owner passed. He purchased the car new in Mount Vernon, ohio, at Rhodes Chevrolet.
The car was driven 59,606 miles until 1971 when he couldnt get what he thought the car was worth ($1500)and parked it when he purchased a new Camaro. The vette sat in the same spot less than 50 miles from where it was originally sold until after he passed. November 2020 my father in law and I flew back to look at the car he and decided to buy it from the estate and bring it back to Las Vegas. A year later we had it back on the road in good running and driving condition without altering the state the car was is.
