Classic Car Overview

During the 1950s and 1960s, the 24 hours of Le Mans was the crucible of competition that manufacturers used to turn wins on the track into sales in the showroom. In late 1962, Chevrolet chief engineer Zora Arkus Duntov decided to build a production run of 125 purpose-built Corvette race cars with the ultimate goal of winning the GT class at Le Mans. Duntov dubbed the project the Lightweight; Chevrolet marketing later christened the cars Grand Sports. After a pilot run of five cars, GM management cancelled the project and ordered the cars destroyed.

Zora hid the first two cars and sent serial numbers 003, 004 and 005 to Texan John Mecom. He sold those race cars to fellow Texans Alan Sevadjian, Delmo Johnson and Jim Hall. In the last International race of his career, Johnson drove Grand Sport #003 at Sebring in 1965; Duntov provided the team the first racing big block engine to leave the factory for that race.

You can own an authentic continuation version of the spectacular Grand Sport race car, authorized and approved by General Motors. Superformance CGS0043 is painted Admiral Blue with the #2 Grand Sport paint scheme including painted Roundels. With 17 inch Front Wheels and 18 Rear Wheels wrapped in sticky Nitto NT555 Radial Tires that put a lot of rubber and grip on the road! This car also features stainless steel Side Pipes, and chrome side mirrors. Other details like the leather straps latching the vented hood and the differential cooler on the rear deck show off the heritage of the 1963 Grand Sport.

In a great blending of heritage Corvette design with modern powertrain technology, CGS0043 is powered by a Supercharged Wegner LS376 making 1,100HP on pump gas! This special build includes the following:

Harrop 2650 Supercharger breathing through a 112mm Billet Throttle Body

Custom Wegner Billet Supercharger Cover

Billet Valve and Coil Covers

Smooth Boost Supercharger Bypass Controller

Holley Terminator Max ECU

Snow Performance Dual Fuel Pump Hat

Billet Pulleys

Motion Raceworks Billet Catch Can
Custom Front Mounted Intercooler with Brushless Pump

Leash Dual Fuel Pump Controller, Holley integrated

Electric On-Demand Power Steering Pump

Custom Dual Radiator Fans for extra cooling

All this power goes through a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 Speed and Centerforce SST Twin Disc Clutch connected to a Custom Carbon Drive Shaft. Custom larger Half Shafts assist with handling all of the extra power. Speaking of handling, custom Front Adjustable Upper Control Arms are included as well as an upgraded Carbon Rear Leaf Spring

Front Adjustable Upper Control Arms

This Grand Sport features the Touring interior with period low-back seats, double stitching, tilt steering wheel, leather center tunnel, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, and period look modern gauges. The car is also fully Dynamatted for sound and heat insulation and has a custom Bluetooth sound system built in with Focal Speakers inset into the door panels for a flush look.

CGS0043 is registered in Montana as a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette with only 147 miles on the odometer. It is available for $295,950.
