Classic Car Overview

Continuing our effort to bring you excellent vehicles since 1971, Joe Basil Chevrolet has recently expanded into offering a full resale line of classic cars. We have constructed a new, state-of-the-art building on Transit Road. This building will be our display area where you and other classic car enthusiasts can comfortably view our current collection of antique and classic cars offered for sale. David Dunbar Buick began automobile production in 1899 but quickly sought to expand into a larger venue. As a result, in 1908, General Motors emerged offering Buick and two additions, Oldsmobile and Cadillac to the public for sale. Although additional models were added over the years to include Pontiac and Chevrolet, only two of the original offerings produced from GMs inception remain today, Cadillac and Buick. Cadillacs general target area had been the consumer wanting a luxury vehicle and continues to pursue that market area today. Buick on the other hand, positioned itself somewhat less aggressively. GM sought to posture Buick in an upscaled position, targeting the businessman or middle class family market. As a part of the GM lineup, Buick began with only several models in 1908, the most popular of which was the model 10. The model 10 accounted for the greatest number of Buicks sold out of 8,820 in total for that year. Power for the model 10 was produced from a 165ci L head four cylinder engine producing 22.5 horsepower through a two speed planetary transmission. By todays standards, the open body model 10 was a very basic automobile. It was marketed for $900 and proved to be a resounding success for Buick and General Motors. Post war Buick offerings saw more streamlined body designs and lower roof lines as styling advances began to respond to the demands of the purchasing public. Several one off concept vehicles were produced at design engineer Harley Earls direction to generate additional general feedback. Among those were the 1953 Wildcat I, the 1954 Wildcat II and the 1955 Wildcat III. These concept cars drew extensive interest and their creation by Mr. Earl was said to have led to the production of the Buick Skylark in 1953, the LeSabre in 1959 and the Wildcat in 1962.This 1963 Buick LeSabre convertible we are offering for sale in our collection holds many modern design advances that can be credited to its predecessors and of course, the great Mr. Harley Earl himself. First purchased in Niagara Falls NY, this Buick LeSabre convertible shows a mere 62,678 pampered miles on its odometer. We have no information on the first owner of this stunning LeSabre, but we can confirm the last two owners spanned over a period of 25 years. Within that time period, a complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration had been accomplished. Hardened valve seats were installed in the heads of the 401ci nail head engine for proper operation using todays unleaded gasoline fuels. The 265hp 2 bbl. 401 was completely rebuilt and purrs like a kitten. Coupled with the dynaflow transmission, this was the last year this drivetrain was available in the LeSabre model. The LeSabre offered here today has the addition of power steering and power brakes and has drivers side reverse threaded wheel lug bolts as well. With only one small deteriorated area in the floor having been addressed, the restored body and paint on this beautiful convertible are nearly flawless, as is the convertible top. The black paint appears to be liquid as you gaze down the length of the body panels disclosing their seemingly perfect condition. Both front and rear bumpers had been replated during the restoration process but the grill and stainless trim retain their original shine. The dealer installed Wildcat rims are fitted with period correct wide whitewall bias belted tires which together add to the overall classic appearance that tends to hold your attention. The trunk area is in very clean condition containing a matching spare tire and body colored rear wheel well fender skirts. The interior is in meticulous condition as well, showing new red vinyl seat upholstery trimmed in white and newly installed red carpeting throughout. The dashboard and instrumentation are in original condition showing little to no deterioration due to age. This beautiful LeSabre, obtained from its local senior owner is one of the finest examples we have seen and we believe it is among the most attractive convertible models Buick has ever produced.
