Oldsmobile Division celebrated on January 11, 1962 the building of its 7,500,000th car since the founding in 1897. This year also saw new styling of the front clip and tail which helped Olds to its best sales year since 1956 and from going from 6th to 4th place in the industry. The Oldsmobile products came in six different models: The F-85, F-85 Deluxe, Dynamic 88, Super 88, Starfire, and at the top, the Olds 98 like this one shown. This 98 four door Town Sedan is one of 12,167 examples made and cost $3,984 at the dealer. The only engine mated to this model of Olds is a Rocket V8, 394 cid., with 330 bhp. The style feature I most admire about the 62 Olds big cars is the telescoped front clip whereby the grille and headlight is thrust forward from the front fenders. This feature was never exactly seen on any other car made. It is very unique. Stainless trim run the length of the car and along the trunk lid between the dual brake lights. The interior sports tasteful chrome touches on the dash and the cloth and vinyl seats are inviting. So, check out this big Olds sedan and enjoy this car from the milestone year.
