Classic Car Overview

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1962 Land Rover Series IIA. Fresh from a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration, this Rover was hand-rebuilt on a galvanized chassis by North America Overland, a Land Rover specialist in Monroe, Connecticut. More than a decade in the car business has made me somewhat immune to hyperbole and superlatives, but if you want the finest Land Rover on the planet, this is it. North America Overland is considered the reference standard by which any other restoration is judged. Finished in Mid Grey with a canvas soft top, paint and body present to a better-than-new standard. All aluminum body panels were stripped to bare metal and fully restored and repainted, and all steel components have been galvanized (including the frame). Glass, side curtains and all rubber, seals, bushings, etc. are new. A Warn M8000 winch is mounted to the front bumper; steel wheels are wearing Michelin tires. Interior was likewise fully restored with all new gauges, switches, latches, rubber floor mats, and seats upholstered in correct elephant hide vinyl. A Defender shoulder harness allows for three-point seat belts. Under the hood is an overhauled and upgraded 2.25 liter gasoline four-cylinder mated to a four-speed fully-synchronized manual transmission from a Series III (which was also rebuilt, along with the transfer case). Clutch, pressure plate and all clutch hydraulics are new. The rebuilt engine has been fitted with electronic ignition, electric fuel pump, new carburetor, high-torque starter, high output alternator, new water pump and stainless exhaust. The head was shaved for 8:1 compression (most 2.25 engines had 7:1 compression) and will happily run on regular unleaded fuel (although ethanol-free is recommended). Completely rewired with new (and correct) cloth-covered wiring plus all new lights and lenses. Suspension and brakes were fully rebuilt with new shocks, springs, steering linkages and four-wheel disk brakes (this truck stops with considerably more confidence than an original drum brake model). The summary list of items highlighting this restoration is seven pages long, and the result is a Land Rover that looks, runs and drives better than it did when new. The cost to have one of these built by North America Overland exceeds $120,000 and and takes two years. With this truck, you can have a fresh build with fewer than 1,000 miles on it for a fraction of the cost and with no wait. Build sheet and Heritage Trust Certificate available upon request.
