Classic Car Overview
This 1962 model year MK II is fitted with the larger 3.8L DOHC six-cylinder engine producing 220hp and is combined with the desirable 4-Speed manual gearbox. The car has 4 wheel disk brakes, and is also fitted with air conditioning. The current owner purchased the car in February of 2015 and has spent around $60,000 in mechanical restoration and improvements during their ownership over the last 9 years. These included; March of 2023-oil change, spark plugs, electronic ignition installed, and Schumacher battery tender fitted in engine bay. October of 2018; suspension A arm bushings, and upper/lower ball joints with alignment. September 2017; fuel system service. October 2016; new front/rear brake calipers, rotors, pads, brake lines. New fuel tank, fuel lines. Tune up, cap, rotor, wires, plugs. New axle seals, and rear wheel bearings. New door lock cylinders fitted. New hand brake cables. Rear differential rebuilt. New clutch slave and master cylinders, and hose. New battery. Recondition speedometer, tachometer, and clock. June of 2016; New complete wire harness, new Genair AC system fitted. New radiator and fan. New T-stat and hoses. New wiper motor fitted, washer system renewed. June of 2015; Carbs rebuilt, new distributor, new motor mounts, electrical system upgraded, new fuse box, repaired wire loom. Oil change and inspection. Overall this is a nice mechanically sorted Jaguar that should give you many miles of fun driving. The bodywork was repainted some time ago and the finish still shines well and looks good but there are numerous age related defects, including cracks, bubbles, and chips here and there. There are some minor rust bubbles on the lower skins of both rear doors but according the the owner these were there in 2015 and have not gotten any worse since. The chrome bumpers and in good shape but the trim around the windows and door handles do show age and some pitting. The tires and wheels are in good condition. The interior shows very nicely with full leather hides on all door panels and seats while the headlining was redone in suede. Carpets are in great shape and are of a loop pile type. The wood is decent and looks to have been all revarnished at some point. The body plaque is missing so we cannot verify this as a numbers matching car nor can we confirm the original color. Overall we would classify this MK II as a condition 3 car on the Hagerty rating scale, it is a nice driver car that can be taken to your local car show or cars and coffee but not a concours car. The car can easily be enjoyed as it is now or could be improved by some paint repairs and brightwork replating in the future. The MK II Jag was THE performance sedan to have in the 60s and many stories circulate of it being the choice car for bank robbers and villains due to the fact that nothing could keep up with them, especially the coppers. Think of the MK II as a 4-door E-Type, it defines the term "sports sedan". There were 3 engine variations but the 3.8L DOHC six with a manual gearbox is the one to have and drive. The 3.8 motor was good for 125 mph and zero to 60 was achieved in only 8.5 seconds which was just .5 seconds slower than a Ferrari 250 GTE with a 4.0L V12! The MK II saloons ooze with class and style with luxurious interiors full of leather and burl walnut trim plus lots of chrome trim for added curb appeal.
