Windy City Warriors

From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.

Savoy Faire is Everywhere

The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.

Classic Car Overview

1 OF 554 PRODUCED AND LESS THAN 50 ESTIMATED SURVIVORSCOMPREHENSIVELY RESTORED INCLUDING ENGINE REBUILDFINISHED IN EMBASSY RED (CODE O) W/WHITE POWER TOPNEW WHITE LEATHER UPHOLSTERY WITH RED PIPING340 HP 413 CI 4-BARREL V-8/TORQUEFLITE AUTOMATICFEATURING: A/C, AM RADIO, POWER ANTENNA, PB, PS, PW Among the last expressions of famed stylist Virgil Exners designs for Chrysler Corporation, the updated 1962 Imperial Crown models maintained a sense of classical elegance with more restrained tailfins, a split front grille, freestanding pod-style headlamps, gun sight taillamps and less ornate exterior trim. In contrast, interiors were modern, almost futuristic, with pushbutton dash controls for the TorqueFlite automatic transmission and electroluminescent instrument display system. Chryslers renowned 413 CI V-8 engine was the sole power choice for Imperials from 1959 through 1965, delivering a factory rating of 340 HP for 1962 and capable of moving Americas largest luxury car that year with remarkable authority. Despite their generous proportions, Imperials from this era are respected for their good handling characteristics, thanks to Chryslers well-engineered suspension featuring torsion bars up front and rear leaf springs. The limited-production Imperial Crown Convertible was particularly rare with just 554 built for 1962. According to estimates from the Imperial Club, fewer than 50 remain in existence today, including this handsome and recently restored example. Finished in Embassy Red (Code O) paint with a white power convertible top and leather upholstery accented by smart red piping, this 1962 Imperial Crown Convertible is powered by its original 413 CI V-8 engine, factory-rated at 340 HP and rebuilt with only an approximate 1,000 miles of use. During restoration, a new OEM transistor ignition and new OEM high-capacity radiator, plus a new carburetor, exhaust and other parts were installed. As expected, features and passenger amenities are numerous. Among them are power-operated brakes, steering, windows, vent windows, a power front seat with 6-way adjustment, a power convertible top, remote drivers side mirror, pushbutton heater controls, a pushbutton AM radio with power antenna, windshield washer, passenger-side vanity mirror, bright wheel moldings, full instrumentation with electroluminescent illumination and a trunk-compartment courtesy light. Period-appearing radial whitewall tires surround 15-inch diameter steel wheels mounting full stainless wheel covers. A recent inspection confirms the instrumentation and electrical accessories are functional and the Imperial is as nice to drive as it is to look at. A special postwar American luxury automobile with excellent engineering, commanding presence and true rarity, this 1962 Imperial Crown Convertible simply must be experienced in person to be fully appreciated.
