Classic Car Overview
1962 Imperial Custom, Sedan model
Approximately 3,500 were produced in 1962; base price $5,100 with a 413ci V-8, pushbutton automatic transmission. I have owned the car for 30 years and finally finished a lengthy restoration. I have only driven the car about 100 miles since completing the restoration. Always garaged. No rot at all. Restored, with original parts and styling. I “over-restored” as I painted in more detail than the factory. 90,000 miles prior to restoration. Almost every piece of the car was disassembled, repaired, replaced, painted and restored. As close to a frame off as possible.
Exterior: Entire front end removed. Stripped to bare metal with 13 gallons Aircraft acid paint stripper. Painted with base coat/clear coat to original color of Embassy Red. Front and rear bumpers triple plated with show chrome and inside painted with Por-15. Nose was removed and completely disassembled. All engine compartment panels, wheel wells were stripped. Inside of the fenders painted with Por-15 restorative paint. New weather-stripping on firewall, trunk lid and doors. New tail light lenses. Working power antenna. Original hub caps.
Undercarriage: Completely cleaned. Painted with Black Miracle paint, frame and entire undercarriage. Then the under body painted with exterior color paint and detailed. New leaf springs, ball joints and stainless steel dual exhaust.
Engine compartment: Rebuilt engine with hardened valve seats. Transmission works fine and was not rebuilt. Rebuilt: emergency drum brake, Auto pilot cruise control, power brake booster, windshield washer motor and new tubing. New master cylinder. Hood painted with new insulation. A/C works with new clutch bearing.
Interior: All upholstery new to original design including front/back seats, door panels, headliner and rear deck. Front and Back seat were upholstered from a bolt of NOS sliver pleather from a warehouse in Detroit. New carpeting. Floor painted from the trunk to the firewall with Por-15 paint. Power window motors rebuilt. Master window switch rebuilt. New rubber wire harness protectors at front doors. 6 way power bench seat works, original radio rebuilt and works with STATION CHANGING foot switch.
Trunk: Rear window blower works. Trunk light works. New carpeting and cardboard trunk liner. Speaker wires run for auxiliary rear speaker.
