1962 Chevrolet Impala Hardtop For consignment, a 1962 Chevrolet Impala hardtop, showing 66,912 unverifiable miles as the title reads Mileage Exempt, bearing a unique paint job and stunning interior This is an old school ride, and one of six Impala models available in 1962. Cars would swell into the 70s, but in 1962 this was considered by Chevrolet a big car. Exterior Ermine White is enhanced on every panel with gold scallop designs, C-shaped graphics that start thick and rocket back to asymmetrical points which give the illusion of movement even when the car is standing still. Its like the whoosh lines in cartoons, drawn to show forward motion. Even the horizontal surfaces here are adorned with the outlined graphics and along with the rear canted double antenna out back, this car simply exudes speed. Triple tail lights out back are unmistakable in the car world and the twin headlights underscored by a marker light are also unique. 14-inch wheels wear hubcaps with faux knock offs and are wrapped in white walls while the red rim of the steel wheel adds another dimension. A reflective stripe has been added to the midline trim and an SS emblem has been added to the rear quarter. Imperfections include a number of areas down low with paint runs, touched up chips, and a ding in some metalwork. Interior Square stitched red vinyl makes up the upper door panels showing a bit of patina in discoloration while down below, vertically stitched white vinyl sets the contrast. Controls on the door are diminutive for such a big car and fit the trends of slim hardware on 60s cars. Thick padding makes up the front seats which make up the split bench, dressed in red vinyl with white stitched insert, showing some compression and staining on the drivers side but in overall nice condition. The pattern is copied on the back bench which dips dramatically in the center to make room for a decorative, metal plate. The red steering wheel also wears patina but is intact and attractive, fronting the simple dash that puts a horizontal speedometer over a trio of round gauges in a grooved metal mid-plate that also takes on the AM radio towards the center. The dash pad also shows its age with some cracking in the material. The red loop carpet is excellent while the perforated white headliner shows some age but is not torn or loose. Cut to fit mats cover the extraordinarily clean trunk which houses a spare on the rear shelf. Drivetrain Also clean is the 283ci V8 under the hood with orange block, red heater hoses, and gold brake booster, along with ribbed, polished valve covers. A 4-barrel carburetor sits atop an Edelbrock intake manifold and its all married to a Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission sending power to 3.36 gears in back. Those power brakes are drums all the way around. Undercarriage We dont see many painted gas tanks, but this one is white underneath and in sharp contrast to the surface rust that covers most components and the left side exhaust. The pans are coated with oil and the knuckles are driver quality, and we note some flaking rust, painted over on a body brace and on belly pans. The rear differential might need attention to the pinion seal as theres oil there as well. Dual exhaust meets a pair of Cherrybomb mufflers on their way to the back and chrome tips. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and a 3 link with coil springs and a panhard bar out back. Drive-Ability Now were cruisin! This is the ultimate boulevard car whether thats Woodward or Ventura or Roosevelt. The 283 provides plenty of power for a cruise, and probably a bit more, and it sounds great out of the Cherrybombs. Lots of glass means lots of visibility and the car also handles well as it hugs the ground, and tracks straight. All functions work as they should.
