If you're a fan of vintage Japanese cars, be sure to check out Nissan's online heritage site. There are tons of vintage Nissan pics and specs going all the way back to the 1920s. Each featured car or truck has relevant specs and a little "detail" tab that gives some background on that specific car.
The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.
Classic Car Overview
Selling my 1961 Volkswagen Beetle. I never get to drive it as much as it deserves, so the time has come. Approximately 23k miles when I bought it a few years ago, and currently at 26,400.
Happy to provide additional photos! The price is $8,999 or best reasonable offer. CA state title is clear and free and in my name.
A previous owner completed most of the work on this car in the 80’s here in California. There was one owner in between him and me, and I’ve been able to figure out most of the mods, changes and add-ons.
The paint is left over from the 80’s and needs some work. The hood was recently re-done, but the clear coat on the roof needs to be re-done as well due to some sun damage.
There is a small dent in the front right quarter panel where someone backed into it recently. Otherwise, the body is straight and rust free. The pan is straight and rust free.
The large VW logo on the side is not a decal but rather hand-painted back in the 80’s. There are also subtle touches of pinstriping from the same era.
As you can see, the window vents were converted to one-piece style. The front turn signals have been shaved and have been relocated to the Rossi headlights; these are original Rossi lights, metal not plastic rings. The rims are American Eagle 5-spokes with the plastic Empi center caps.
The tires are 135’s in the front and 195’s in the rear. Spare tire is a matching wheel but the tire is a 165.
The front bumper was just replaced, and the bumpers that came with the car (an extra set!) are included in the sale as well. The previous owner installed the interior in the 80’s and it’s from Sew Fine. It is in good condition as you can see from the photos.
The panels on the dash are billet aluminum as well as the steering column. The headliner is in good shape, no rips or tears. The sun visors are tinted black. The shifter is a standard button t-handle and works fine. The floor pedals are billet aluminum. The heater knob is billet aluminum.
Gauges are as follows: VDO clock, VDO fuel, VDO Ampmeter, Autometer oil pressure, Autometer oil temp, Autometer tachometer with shift light, stock speedometer
I don’t know the specifications of the transmission, but don’t think it’s completely stock; the car pulls like a maniac and I’ve yet to have it pop out of gear. It’s still a 4 speed. No issues transmission or the clutch since I’ve owned the car.
The engine is a 2180 and runs strong. Owner before me rebuilt the carbs back in 2007 and haven’t had any problems with them at all. The fuel system is plumbed from the carbs to the tank with - 6AN lines. There is a Holly fuel regulator feeding the carbs. The fuel is pumped through using an Aeromotive electric pump filtered with two Earl’s filters, one is a 85 micron stainless screened filter the other is a 35 micron sintered bronze filter; both filters can be cleaned and re-used. The fuel fitting on the bottom of the tank is also -6AN. The carbs are connected via a CB performance linkage was bought new in 2007. The carb preload springs are from Airkewld. The air filters are K&N. Cooling tin is in place and a Zwerks “Hoover Bit” installed. All tin is powder coated satin black.
The exhaust is a Tiger 1-5/8” ceramic coated A-1 header and muffler that was installed in 2007. The distributor is a .009 from the 80’s; the cap and rotor were replaced in 2007. The coil, leads and spark plugs were replaced at the same time. The brakes are stock drums and have been inspected and cleaned; no issues here either. The parking brake is installed and works great.
You’re getting a good car and many extra parts. Cash or certified bank check only in USD. Sale as is where is; no warranty implied or otherwise given.
