Classic Car Overview

1961 Jaguar XKE For Sale-Judged A Perfect 1000 Points At Jaguar Concourse LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1961 Jaguar XKE Roadster. Jaguar was a well-respected builder of sporting cars, most notably the highly successful XK series and the pre-war SS Jaguars. But, everything changed in 1951.That was the year of the first of Jaguar’s victories at Le Mans, where the winning C-Type was soon followed by the even more competitive D-Type, which began to win in 1955. Over the space of about five years, the automaker transformed from a small British boutique to one of the most fearsome builders of serious race cars on the planet. Their problem was that their passenger cars were a poor reflection of their on-track prowess. Thus, they developed a new sports car platform called the E-type. The new body, would be offered in roadster and coupe form. Despite influence from the C- and D-Types, the E-Type was not designed in a wind tunnel. Instead, it was sculpted it with a combination of instinct and mathematical formulae, both of which proved to be highly functional. Not only was the car a popular hit from the moment it appeared, but later aerodynamic studies and race track wins confirmed that it was right in every regard. The drivetrain of the 1961 E-Type picked up where the XK150 left off, offering the triple-carbureted, 265-horsepower, 3.8-liter straight-six from the S-specification XK150 and the same four-speed Moss transmission. All new, however, was a fully independent suspension that proved so successful that Jaguar would use variants on the same architecture underneath every car they made through to the late 1980s. The car for sale can be considered perhaps one of the most desirable models built, in that it is a very early production car with flat floors and a welded louver hood. As stated on the JDHT Certificate, it was originally built October 5, 1961 and imported to the USA through Jaguar Cars in New York City. From there it would be go on to its first owner located in Hillsborough California. It appears to have spent its life in California making it the perfect candidate for an cost is no object, exacting restriction to the highest stands by marque specialists. The goal was to make it the best of the best  and to achieve a perfect score in concours judging. They proceeded to bring the car up to concours condition, in every respect, as it appears today. The painstaking restoration of this early E-Type extends to every aspect. The work has been documented with a binder full of receipts. The body was complety striped and examined before being sealed, primed, painted, clear-coated, color-sanded, and buffed to its gleaming as delivered new Opalescent Gunmetal factory finish. Complemented by a stunning Red leather interior that looks showroom new. The car is powered by its matching numbers engine. Both transmission and engine rebuilt and detailed to run, drive and look like it come from the factory in 1961.  Finally, it rests on beautiful polished chrome wire wheels with original style Dunlop Roadspeed tires. Due to this car’s significance as a documented early production Series 1 E-Type  a true no expense was spared restoration was certainly justifiable.  On its first two outings the car was entered and judged in the JCNA once at a 995.5 and again at 999.5. The owner would not rest nor give up until he achieved his goal, a perfect score of 1000. It would be on July 17 2016 that the goal would be realized; a perfect 1000 points score n the Jaguar Club of North America San Diego Concours and winning first place in the Champion Division as well.   Included with the sale of this gorgeous Roadster is a JDHT Certificate, Tool Roll, Owner’s Manual, Restoration Receipts, Concours Judging Sheets and Awards. This is truly an outstanding example of a extremely collectible Series 1 E-Type Jaguar with a perfect 1000 point score that will only continue to appreciate for years to come.
