1961 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible For SaleThis 1961 Chevrolet Corvette convertible has been with the same owners for the last 55 years, and it shows the kind of consistency that only long-term, careful ownership produces. Built on the St. Louis line, its a largely original example of a pivotal year for the C1 finished in white over a jewel blue interior, and it comes with both the auxiliary hardtop and the soft top, so the next owner gets the car configured for open-air driving or buttoned up for the colder months.Mechanically, the one departure from original spec is the engine, and its a good one. In place of the factory unit sits a 350 small-block built specifically for the current owners, and said to have been driven less than 100 miles. Its backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and runs 3.55 gearing out back, a combination that makes for a responsive, genuinely usable driver rather than a trailer queen. Braking is handled by drums all around, correct for the period. Outside of the engine, the car remains original throughout.The 1961 model year is one of the more interesting points in early Corvette history. It was the first year for the four-taillight rear treatment that has defined the cars look ever since, and it marked the end of an era as the last year for the 283 V8 and the last year dual-carb setups and factory two-tone paint were offered. Aluminum radiators became standard equipment, and the 4-speed gained an aluminum case.
