This was the first year for the four round taillights, a design choice that became a Corvette signature for over 50 years. The toothless front grille: Designers removed the heavy chrome teeth found on previous grilles, replacing them with a sleek silver mesh.

Exhaust evolution, for the first time, exhaust pipes exited under the rear body instead of through the chrome bumper, which kept the bumpers cleaner from exhaust soot. Modern Cooling: It was the first model to feature an aluminum crossflow radiator as standard equipment, improving performance while reducing front-end weight.

The engine: end of the 283, 1961 was the final year for the legendary 283 cubic-inch V8.
