Classic Car Overview

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys The Monaco Auction event, 25 April 2026.
250,000 - 350,000 EUR

  • Supplied new to Charlottenlund, Denmark; believed to be the only DB4 Series IV delivered to the country
  • Originally painted California Sage and trimmed with a Dark Blue leather interior; now presents in gunmetal grey over dark blue hide
  • Powered by its matching-numbers 3.7-litre straight-six engine
  • Accompanied by a copy of its factory build sheet
  • Offered after a period of static display; requires mechanical inspection prior to returning to the road

Considered by many to be the most desirable iteration of the Aston Martin DB4, the Series IV was distinguished by its recessed rear light formation, a lower bonnet scoop, and slatted front grille. A mere 185 examples emerged from the Newport Pagnell factory gates, with a fraction of this figure produced for left-hand-drive markets.

Rolling off the production line late in the summer of 1961, chassis number DB4/788/L offered here was destined for Denmark and delivered to the first owner, Mr Christian Ude Hansen of Charlottenlund on 28 September. Not only is this example rare for being Danish delivered, but it was specified in the fabulous colour scheme of California Sage over a Dark Blue leather interior. A copy of the 1964 Aston Martin Owners Club Register listed Mr Hansen as the owner of the car and build sheet copies (available to view on file) detail work done to this DB4 Series IV while in his care. In 1965, the engine benefited from a top-end rebuild, with some repairs made to the front of the car.

By the 1970s, chassis number DB4/788/L had been sold. However, its exact whereabouts at this time was unknown. Acquired by the vendor in the late 2000s, the DB4 was exported to Kuwait to form part of a private collection. Today, the car sports gunmetal grey paintwork with a dark blue interior. Significantly, upon inspection, the Aston Martin has been found to retain its matching-numbers straight-six engine. This vehicle is presented from a prolonged period of static display and so a mechanical inspection is recommended prior to road use.

Quite possibly the only Aston DB4 Series IV to have been delivered new to Denmark, and retaining its matching-numbers engine, this car now awaits a new custodian.

Please note this lot has entered the EU on a temporary import bond, which must be cancelled either by exporting the lot outside of the EU on an approved Bill of Lading with supporting customs documentation or by paying the applicable VAT and import duties to have the lot remain in the EU.
