From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.

Everything was rebuilt or NOS. Total frame off restoration. '63-'64 Super Lark style chassis. Disk brakes, Power-Shift auto-trans, Dana 44 Twin-Traction 3.73 ratio. NOS F&R fender panels & doors on a rust free Florida car, originally sold by my Dad at Grandfather's Studebaker Dealership. I've owned this car since High School, 1976.
The car had 46,000 miles on it when the transformation was started in 1999. When purchased it in 1976, it had 27,000 miles. This was a low mileage rust free vehicle to resto-mod.
Super Lark chassis has the 1963-1964 Super Lark type performance features:
*Variable rate front cargo coils
*Entire front end rebuilt - King Pins, Upper & Lower control arm bushings, bell crank etc. Tie rod end links
*5 leaf rear leaf springs NOS with new bushings
Note: The wheelbase now has the extra 1/2 inch length due to the rear springs being the 1963+ style. .
*NOS V8 Drive Shaft to allow fitment for the Power Shift Transmission to Dana 44 rear axle.
*Turner front Disk brake conversion (Ford drums, GM Calipers) including dual master cylinder. All new brake lines.
*1964 style self adjusting rear finned drum brakes. V8 size drums.
Uses a proportioning valve to adjust the front disc vs. rear drum brake bias. (these items came in the Turner brake kit.)
Heavy duty (thicker bar) F&R sway bars from Studebaker Parts & Service. Car is using the later 1963+ front sway bar mounting pedestals.
* Radius Rods (traction bars) are installed and adjustable.
* Heavy Duty Rear Axle: Avanti R-Series (radius rod mounting brackets) Twin Traction 3.73 axle ratio Dana 44. All was NOS, including the tapered axles.
* No Power Steering. Using a 1961 Lark GM Saginaw V8 steering box. Much easier turning that the Ross steering gear allowed.
2 1/2 Stainless Steel dual exhaust. Note, exhaust tips & mufflers are blacked out, to hide the dual exhaust.
Studebaker Body: NOS F&R Fenders & Doors. No rust or accidents.
All new rubber gasket seals - windows, doors, trunk
New custom interior & carpets
The stainless steel side trim was excluded on the NOS panels, to give the car the "Little Old Lady" look.
Still using the "Lark VI" emblems, to help promote the sleeper image.
Studebaker Power-train. Everything was rebuilt with new or NOS. Including all suspension bushings etc.
The Borg Warner "Power Shift" automatic transmission was one of the last NOS units available.
Trans developed for the '63 Avanti. Think of it as a His & Hers type shifter. You are able to hold the gears 1, 2 & 3 at will. Select "D" for normal automatic shifting. With Transmission cooler
1964 Full Flow block - 289 cu in bored .030 over. R2 Avanti performance cam.
'57-'58 Golden Hawk style Mcculloch VS57 supercharger, mounted on an R2 spec engine.
3 angle valve job - low compression export heads, suitable for a supercharged engine.
