Classic Car Overview

The Silver Cloud II was introduced in October of 1959 and was built until 1962 with 2716 units being produced. The Silver Cloud II was the first model to use Rolls Royce's new 6.2L V8 which had 220 horsepower. The motoring press praised the car at launch claiming Effortless speed and extreme quietness with a new V-8 engine. In September 1960, Road & Track reported, it is a pleasure to report that there is still a company in business dedicated to the task of producing the best car in the world, regardless of cost. These cars beam with classic elegance and old English coach built quality. There is nothing like driving one of these graceful old gals down the boulevard or being chaffered around town while you feel like royalty of a bygone era.

This Silver Cloud II was finished on December 16, 1959 and shipped to Holland for use as a demonstrator vehicle for a dealer in Germany. The first owner, a Mrs. Wayne Darland of Amsterdam took delivery on September 4, 1960. The car was originally delivered in Sage Green over Fawn Beige interior. At some point the car was resprayed in Black Lacquer and the paint still shines very well and looks good from a distance with some age related patina showing in numerous spots upon closer inspection. The interior has survived very well with the Beige Connolly hides presenting in good condition and still soft with evidence of being redyed at some point. The leather bound carpets are in good condition and the original wood is decent but showing age in spots and could benefit from being revarnished. The car eventually made its way to Austin TX in 2004 and was owned by Robyn Metcalfe PHD, a historian, author, and futurist. The car was then sold to its current owner, a collector here in the Pacific Northwest in 2021 who used the car on driving club tours, and showed it at a few car shows in the area. Over the years the car has benefited from typical service and maintenance to keep it in good running and driving condition. In April of 2024 a new windscreen was fitted. New tires were installed in 2021 as well as the generator and starter being rebuilt. In 2017 the transmission was resealed. In 2014 the brakes were serviced. Shocks were replaced in 2010. The engine fires up easily and idles very smoothly.

This is a great driver's car that can be enjoyed as it is or could benefit from some light cosmetic restoration to make it more show quality but overall it is a nice example of the golden era of Rolls Royce's classic big sedans. Included are 2 keys, one golden key, one chrome plated, complete tool kit, service records from 2004 to current, a clear WA title, and hard bound original owner's manual.
