Classic Car Overview

1960 Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupe For consignment, a 1960 Jaguar XK150 fixed head coupe showing 38,635 miles, but the true miles are unknown. 3,861 XK150s were built in 1960 and of them, just 656 were produced as left hand drivers. This car has been owned by our consignor since 1966 and the full records of maintenance are available. Exterior Objectively speaking, Jaguar has produced some of the most beautiful designs in the automotive world, and the XK150 fits right in there with the best of them, a car that appears to be in motion even as its parked in our photo booth. This one is bathed in Old English White and augmented by chrome bits that include the oval grille between extended and ringed headlights, dramatic tail light housings, window and license plate trim, and of course, the bumpers that gently hug the corners. Then, there are the 15-inch chrome wire wheels and there can be no substitute, and these are wrapped in tires with a mid 2024 date code. For the 150, Jaguar flattened the fenders for better integration and moved the windshield four inches for more interior room, and along with other subtle changes, created a classically beautiful car. Imperfections on this one include some minor pitting on metalwork, some rust on the lower panel as it turns under, cracking paint and filler, bubbling, and various cracks. Interior Smooth red leather panels along with polished trim and hardware present handsome door panels with an integrated lower storage compartment. Red leather bucket seats with square edges and red piping are inviting and attractive and are in very good condition. Small seats exist in the back and robust red coverings around them, all well served as a package shelf. Finger grooves shape the black steering wheel up front which leads to a central instrument cluster housed in a burlwood face plate and trimmed in chrome in very nice shape. The rest of the dash is red, of course, and covered with soft surfaces at a time when steel, painted dashboards were the norm on American roads. Plush red carpet covers the floor, a red leather boot on the shifter with a knob that has a slight patina, and a gray cloth headliner thats in excellent condition. The trunk is uncovered and barren and could use a red carpet to dress it up, but that will be up to you. Drivetrain Jaguar engines are also aesthetic treats and this one presents in driver quality. Its a 3.8 liter DOHC inline six cylinder producing 220 horsepower and fueled by 2 HD6 Su carburetors. Its mated to a 4-speed manual with overdrive and power is routed to the rear axle with 4.09 gears. Undercarriage Driver quality here as well with quite a bit of surface rust and areas of invasive rust, along with a welded frame repair. Theres some gunk build up on the rear differential and knuckles. Dual exhaust runs through glasspack style mufflers before exiting through black pipes out back. Suspension consists of torsion bars up front and leaf spring in the back and disc brakes are found at all four wheels. Drive-Ability The interiors of many Jaguars feel more like a cigar lounge than sports car and all the red leather and wooden dash certainly help with that. The six cylinder fires up without hesitation and this legendary coupe shuttles us around the test loop in fine style, running right, handling well and all with excellent visibility despite its extended nose. We note the tachometer and the horn are not working but all other functional items in and on the car work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. During our consignors ownership, many new items were added including the transmission, clutch, master cylinders, gas tank, starter, exhaust, radiator, wiring harness, and others. The engine was rebuilt in 1991 and over the years, the car has garnered six first place trophies. Long term ownership and the records that accompany it make this XK150 worth looking into.
