From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
They’re only original once! Selling my Survivor ‘60. I bought it about two years ago from a one-owner family. Bought new by a family friend, William Running, auto shop teacher in Pasadena. It’s a 352, ps, pw, pb (Kelsey-Hayes), a/c, power driver seat. Just under 98,000 original miles—has NOT rolled over. Its Palm Springs Rose paint has faded slightly to a pearly white. The car is pretty much original. Its black and white vinyl seats have been restuffed. Has after-market trailer hitch that was installed not long after it was purchased. It was used to occasionally haul a car trailer back and forth to the auto shop class.
Recently replaced leaking heater core but a/c stopped engaging after repair--not sure why, think it's wiring--but a/c blew cold prior to repair. A spare OEM dashpad was purchased when the car was new and replaced the original dashpad, which had cracked. Radio powers on but doesn't broadcast since dash pad replacement--again, believed to be loose wiring. Needs new antenna. Clock does not work.
New white headliner. New rear shocks, new stainless steel exhaust, new water pump, thermostat, heater core. New oil pump and new seals at bell housing and oil pan. New plugs, wires, distributor. In 2016, brakes, wheel cylinders, and master cylinder redone, generator, voltage regulator, fuel lines, pump, sender, seals, etc. Belts, electric ignition, battery and cables, more... Receipts for all.
Original trunk liner in very good condition. Fiberboard in trunk lid intact. Chrome dress up package on engine—air cleaner and headers. Compression test showed all cylinders good. Lots of receipts. Newer Coker white wall radials. Comes with California Car Cover (Noah). Driven it from Portland to Timberline, Eugene, eastern Washington--goes 85 mph nice and straight down the freeway, no problem. An unusually original car in very good, drivable condition ready to use and show.
