Classic Car Overview

1960 Ford F100 Flareside Pickup For consignment, a 1960 Ford F100 Flareside pickup truck, described by our consignor as a resto-mod and intended to be fun, safe and reliable for the old truck enthusiast who wants to turn heads and not deal with the issues of driving an old truck . Well said, and now youre curious exactly how that was achieved, and theres a lot to unpack, so get comfortable. Lets start with the fact that it has a title verified 6,267 actual miles and has been covered in a garage since its restoration. Exterior Repainted about nine years ago with some touch up in 2023, the truck presents in Dark Gray Metallic. Its two stage here and has been ceramic coated. The bulldog-like fascia with the quad headlights would go away in 61 for a softer look, while our front is painted in menacing black. That black reappears on the lid of the cab which accentuates the slight forward cant of the cabin that along with the rest of the lines, gives the truck some forward momentum even when parked. The step is topped by a grippy Ford branded metal plate, riveted into place on each side and long wooden stakes wall in the bed with honey colored oak that offers a beautiful contrast to the gray. Wood boards line the bed alternating with chrome strips while a cedar plank cover adds another layer and has a cedar storage box built in. 15-inch black steel wheels enjoy a redline highlight and Ford dog dish covers. Imperfections are few with some bubbling down low, some paint runs, and a ding in the cab corner. Interior Black painted inner doors share space with a ribbed gray vinyl insert, dressing up the otherwise utilitarian truck doors, and the black continues along the metal dash. But lets not get ahead of ourselves! The seats share the paint color palette with gray inserts framed in black vinyl on a full bench seat thats in great shape and puts the driver in front of a wood rimmed steering wheel on a tilt column. A polished metal plate houses the gauge cluster, a series of Dolphin white face gauges and a shiny retro radio hides Bluetooth capability, while vents express the retro air conditioning and heater onboard. The tall shifter rises from the floor with a black boot in a sea of black carpet and our consignor notes the cabin has been lined with sound deadening panels. The patterned headliner is where the speakers live and is in great shape. Drivetrain Under the hood, a rebuilt 302ci V8 dressed in chrome valve cover and air filter housing, along with an Edelbrock intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a rebuilt AOD 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is sending power to the Ford 9 axle in back. A nice upgrade to the stopping hardware is supplied as power disc brakes up front and power drums in the rear. Undercarriage Clean but not glossy clean underneath, the simple underside shows the bottom side of the bed planks in good shape, along with mostly dry conditions, save for a drop of oil on the pan. Beyond that, minimal and typical surface rust is present, along with some rust that is more of the Swiss cheese variety on the inner panel of the bed skirt in several places. The front end is blessed with a Mustang II set up for suspension and the rear has typical leaf springs. Headers begin the exhaust process, and the pipes travel in tandem through Thrush mufflers before terminating under the truck in out turned ends. Drive-Ability Why dont mind if we do. This tough looking truck has an inviting interior and a comfortable one at that! We light up the 302 and notice a slightly muted tone thanks to the paneling, but it still suits our need for healthy notes! The truck moves with authority, as if late to work, but the ride is comfortable, as if retired from the daily grind of hauling goods across town. Good visibility combines with straight tracking to render this a solid ride worthy of consideration. All functions work as intended, including lights, gauges, and the radio. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Our consignor was being modest when he said, this is not a show truck . Au contraire, monsieur! We would have zero issues taking this to a show, cruise night, or Cars and Coffee. Sure, one could pump up the showiness of the truck, but its fantastic as is. Its got spunk, attitude, and Americana! Its a turnkey truck that will turn heads and contains some modern touches that will remove the burden of the old factor. If this was American Idol, this truck would get three yeses from us!
