According to its accompanying British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, this Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I BN7, chassis 5878, was built 2 December 1959 and dispatched to North America on 29 December of that same year. Destined for sale in Seattle, Washington, the car was originally finished in a classic combination for the marque: Healey Blue with Blue interior trim and a Blue convertible soft-top. One of approximately 2,825 Mk I BN7s just 20 percent of total production the car was factory-equipped with wire wheels, overdrive, adjustable steering column, a heater, laminated windscreen, and Road Speed tires.
While little is known about its early history, evidence points to the car remaining in the Pacific Northwest for 40 years. Accompanying invoices, dating to the early 1980s, note regular maintenance and conscientious use leading into the mid-1990s when the car was treated to what would become a multi-year, comprehensive restoration. Chassis repair and refinishing were expertly handled by Sean Johnson from The Austin Healer of Okanogan, Washington. A wealth of receipts and correspondence detail Johnsons meticulous process in restoring the car to show-worthy condition, culminating in a bare-metal respray in the authentic Healey color of Colorado Red, accented by black coves and black leather trim with red piping. Autosport of Seattle rebuilt the numbers-matching engine, adding an aluminum oil pan in the process for enhanced performance.
In total, over 100 invoices carefully document the cars journey toward the exceptional condition it is in today. Since completion, it has been sparingly driven and lovingly maintained, treatment that has well-continued since joining an esteemed collection in 2020.
Renowned as one of the marques most impressive offerings, the Austin-Healey 3000 Mark I BN7 occupies a distinguished place in sports car lore, effortlessly blending elegance and performance, with this stunning example perfectly embodying that legacy. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/auctions/hf25/.
