Classic Car Overview

A well-sorted and iconic example offered from a noted collection
Documented cosmetic and mechanical work in 2009
Lavish Ivory finish over a green leather interior
Accompanied by a large file of history records, its Porsche COA, and a highly attractive and rare factory hardtop

The 1959 Porsche 356 A Cabriolet was the culmination of the first major evolution of Porsches pioneering sports car before the arrival of the revised 356 B later that year. Introduced as part of the T2 update, the final 356 A models benefited from continual refinements that improved both drivability and reliability while preserving the lightweight, driver-focused character that had established Porsches reputation around the world. Built with open coachwork by Reutter, the Cabriolet offered a more refined alternative to the Speedster, featuring a fully lined folding top, roll-up windows, and a luxurious interior without sacrificing the nimble handling enthusiasts admired. Power came from Porsches air-cooled flat-four engine, paired with a precise four-speed manual gearbox that rewarded spirited driving through balanced performance rather than outright horsepower. Its graceful proportions, flowing fenders, and unmistakable silhouette reflected the timeless design language established by Ferry Porsches vision. Today, the 1959 Porsche 356 A Cabriolet is regarded as one of the more desirable early production Porsches, admired for its blend of handcrafted quality, engaging road manners, and enduring elegance. Equally suited for spirited drives along winding back roads or relaxed touring, it remains a benchmark among classic European sports cars and a cornerstone of many distinguished Porsche collections.

Offered from a noted Texas collection is this lovely 1959 Porsche 356 A Cabriolet. Draped in a lavish Ivory or a green leather interior, it benefits from a driver-quality restoration that was completed under prior ownership in 2009. Offered with its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, it confirms this 356 A retains its original four-speed manual gearbox and a correct 1964 1600 C flat-four engine stamped 712556. Stamped on both the rear decklid and front bonnet, the body numbers are present and correct, showing 42/942 which reflects the final digits of the VIN. Originally equipped, as confirmed on the COA, is this 356 As rare and desirable factory hardtop that accompanies the car.

Since completion, it has been shown locally at concours and PCA events, reflecting both pride of ownership and consistent care. Today, it presents as a very usable, honest driver with minor cosmetic flaws consistent with enjoyment rather than over-restoration. Along with being a familiar face at various Texas cars and coffee events, it most recently partook in the 2026 Texas Hill Country Rallye.

Accompanied by a large binder of history records and documentation, this lovely and well-sorted 1959 Porsche 356 A Cabriolet, with its rare and sporting hardtop, would make a wonderful choice to be continuously driven and enjoyed at various marque events, tours, and enthusiast gatherings.
